Great, my power steering is intermittent. Hopefully when its in there they can look at whats causing my stock head unit to go crazy. After choosing an Xm/ Radio station it will randomly start choosing different channels without me touching anything

i am really wondering why the HHR is not on the list. my parents HHR blew the 60 amp fuse for the power steering a few months ago, not sure if that is related.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, well maybe just the new members. There have been threads about this since I can remember, it's just about time it was officially a recall from GM.

I don't remember many threads about this.... I remember a lot of other stuff that should be recalled, but isn't.

Same here but only at low speeds like reversing out of my driveway or turning around on the street. I've never had a serious issue with it

The recall is directed at the issue when

Loss of power steering, "power steering" illuminates on the display and chimes at you. It is a bitch to turn the wheel. Its real obvious when its happening. You have to turn the car off and turn it back on and everything will work fine for a random amount of time.

I just recently hit the 41K mark, my steering still works great though... for now....
However I do have some steering ?suspension? Noise during some turns going over bumps, but it's intermittant.

I wonder how they will improve on the new powers steering motor?ALL electric parts eventually wear out so I assume that we will still have these same problems down the road.It just seems like a band-aid on an artery wound.

I think many are underestimating the problem. Changing lanes without the electric power steering isn't bad but making turns is like dancing with the devil and making multiple sudden direction changes is near impossible it's like hitting a brick wall.

Because there are 1,100 people that admit they own an Ion, yet alone complain about the power steering problem.

Hey,

Does anyone know if they will fix damage that caused as result of an outage? It caused me to nail a curb, damage my rim, break my control arm bushings and it broke both sides of my sway bar mount bushings, and it bent my frame according to a chevy dealer as result of the power steering going out. It's great they are going to replace the motors but what about the other stuff as result of this issue? My car can't be perfectly aligned anymore, it always pulls to the right now even with alignment.

ok i read the first page, and the last page, im about to go to bed so didnt have time to read it all....

-there is no set date so far on when the recall letters will be mailed out
-there isnt even a bulletin made that describes what repairs the dealerships will be making or the parts being replaced
-recall #10023; cobalt, g5, and pursuits
-saturns are not included bc "tuning, tires, and chassis differences between the models will cause the ion to not be as suseptable to this problem"
- still dont know which cobalts are affected of those within the years, weather its all of them, or some of them, this recall is not showing up on ANY cobalt/g5/pursuit at the momment; so going to your dealership and asking them to fix it wont do anything
-anyone who has had it repaired in the past can apply for reimbursement once they recieve the letter; it has a reimbursement form included, so you can apply for reimbursement

every mechanical/electrical part is capable of failing...I'm sure everyone knows the older your car gets the higher the chances of a out of pocket expense, cant expect the manufacturer to hold your hand the lifetime of the vehicle :p

dont know, not even the dealerships know, there isnt a bulletin that has been released yet, so we dont know whats getting replaced or fixed...hell dont even know the procedure in diagnosing the vehicle yet

so once i get this letter, i will have a total of 3 recall letters hahaha
1. for the stock cat (dont care not stock)
2. MRA modular reservoir assembly, stating do to operating in areas with warm weather(Cali) haha, may have a condition in which the plastic supply or return port may crack
3. the electric power steering one

God. 195/60R15's were a bitch to turn without power steering. I couldn't image the 215/45R18's.

Yes, it is possible to drive without power steering, but it is a pain in newer cars since not only is the steering wheel smaller (Less leverage), the tires are also wider than they were back when power steering was rare.

I was talking to the service manager of the dealership I go to quite a bit (I was in today for a few warranty items). When I asked him if they were dreading the upcoming shitstorm, he said that he's had alot of calls so far, but it is still "Pending" when they try to bring it up in their system.
