gas mileage problem?

Ok i drive rather spirited and i like going fast but should i be getting like 25-26 miles per gallon? like i try to increase my gas mileage but every now and then ill do 120 in 4th gear and i just cant get above 26 is this average or should shit get checked out? also since we are suppose to switch gears around 3k how are we suppose to get good gas mileage or are we just stuck with 26?

Rydis 04-12-2009 07:46 PM

I drive far less aggressive then most others, and on daily driving shift around 3k and I get between 27-30 so yeah...thats about right.

06SS ALL DAY 04-13-2009 12:38 PM

um dood i get 31 mpg's on a stage 2 65 mph cruise control... i think your feathering the gas pedel too much? and 120 in 4th gear... i'm lost on that one. and i also shift at 3k just like you. do you go into boost all the time? i rarely go into boost unless on my saturday and sunday nights :)

blackbolt89 04-13-2009 12:47 PM

i get 26 avg since my 2.4 mani install. if you're getting 26 with a blower i'm jealous.

in my old OS LS that was fully bolted and tuned I never average below 29 so you are stomping on it.

brk_05 04-13-2009 12:53 PM

More info dude. 26 mpg with mixed city and highway is not bad. I do mostly city driving with short trips in stop and go traffic and rarely see higher than 21-22 mpg. But on all highway trips, I'll see 29-31 mpg.

prvdoughnut 04-13-2009 03:17 PM

Ok i dont have a supercharger i have the 2.4 07 5 speed mani with an unmodded engine so far anyway. and 4th gear at 120 is because i can only get maybe 110 in 5th gear idk if this is just a problem with me or what it just wont go higher. i drive mostly city driving but i do make a 20 min trip 2 times a week all highway.

sean_halla 04-13-2009 03:27 PM

I have a 2.4.. i drive spirited every once in awhile.. i avg 28 in the city.

as for the 120 in 4th gear.. thats basically running redline in our cars..
5th gear wont pull unless you're on a big hill.

prvdoughnut 04-13-2009 07:22 PM

i was at about 5k-6k rpm i wont go over and i dont think i hurt it and is their any other way to get past 110? besides being on a hill lol.

ace921000 04-13-2009 07:26 PM

im getting 22.7 in my 2.4. i drive 95% city stop and go. but i drive like 6 miles a day to and from school. so a tank of gas for me lasts at least 2 weeks

BMXIN749 04-13-2009 07:28 PM

^^ same...but i did notice a huge drop in gas milage when i got my vibrant header...i know im running rich so im probably loosing a mile or two a gallon

prvdoughnut 04-13-2009 07:49 PM

lol i wish i had boost. im considering adding it next spring that or n20 =)

blackbolt89 04-13-2009 07:59 PM

i don't drive that spirited. i just like the sound of my exhaust too much. lol.

red06SC 04-14-2009 02:57 AM

next tank use slow acceleration and keep the boost to over 10 inches of mercury (well, I guess you could say lower, higher numbers, lower gauge swing)

I did this and took my mileage from 25.5 to 34.1

my bad, just saw you don't have an SC

leaving that up there for anyone else ^

prvdoughnut 04-14-2009 12:28 PM

lol thanks for the input though i wont being going supercharged but i will be going turbo next spring when i pay the car off

With highway and inner city my 2.2 automatic 2 door LS is getting 29.2 avg MPG.

All highway is 37MPG.

Spirited driving gets me down to 28.5MPG.

My brother's 4 door 2.2 automatic LT is getting 28.8MPG, and he is a lead foot.
He has the SAI set-up, not sure if that helps MPG.
It makes no sense to me as I take care of my car more than he does his.
He's always getting oil changes at 4k and me at 3k, and I am always keeping my tires at 30psi whereas I don't think he has ever been to the tire pump.

emiller 04-21-2009 07:46 PM

I usually get about 27 and I've gotten as high as 31 a few times. My drive to work is about 15 miles at about 60 mph with only 4 lights.

cobaltjf21 04-23-2009 09:21 AM

no mods to my engine i have 19.8 mpg =/

Razor564 04-23-2009 09:24 AM

I avg 32 in my stocker with a intake and thats even being pretty hard on it at LEAST once a day.

2k7darkknight 04-23-2009 09:57 AM

My 07' SS/SC only has an Injen CAI right now and I'm getting between 31-34 on average

SprChrg4Life 05-31-2009 03:26 PM

^^ is about right. i have an 07 sc. i drive very, very hard. just about every 1-2 and 2-3 shift is at 4k. i punch it onto every highway, i take off quick every chance i get, i love my car. i reset my mpg guage every refill and compare it to my readings of gas used to fill up vs. miles traveled. the computer is never off more than 1/10th, and i average 26.4mpg. I'm stock except for an airbox mod K&N filter.

it's simple people... drive harder, and ya use more gas. this hypermilling section of the forum is quite lame  im jk. do what ya gotta do to save $$ right?
