At avoiding disasters? Yes. I like their gas though, never had an issue. BP, Meijer and Shell are the only ones around here that sell 93 octane gas. Casey's and Wal-Mart are the only ones i'd really suggest to avoid. Shell tends to be more expensive than most places as well.

Shell, Chevron, Texaco, Exxon (I like them best), I've had good luck with Valero.

Avoid Wal-Mart, Sams, Costco, Any grocery store gas. "Name brand gas", etc...

Basically any station that gets consistant business is going to be a good bet.

valero all day

The Costco probably does the most daily volume in our city, this rule still apply? Tuned on Shell, mostly run whatever Costco gets and I haven't noticed any knock.

DO NOT get gas on base! As excited as I was when they finished the MCX gas station in Quantico, the quality isn't very good at all, and I only put 93 in my car. It's worth it for me to drive a few more miles to Sunoco, and the prices aren't that different anyways.

Yes it does apply. I think there's slightly more ethanol in the cheapest gas you can get since its legal for stations to distribute E15 fuel. While more ethanol isn't bad for those that are tuned for it.. it isn't the best for those that're tuned to run on E10 or less.

With Costco/Sam's at least you don't have much worry about water in the tanks.

zgonce2000 05-28-2011 12:10 AM

i run my sam club 93 and never once i had a problem and/or water in the tank neither! am thinking thow of switching to E85 thow. there pump all over where i live so yaa...

Another issue with costco and other high volume places like that is the sediment is stirred up when ever the tanker fills the station. A gas station owner that was my neighbor back when I lived with my dad said that you should wait a day before filling up after the station gets topped up if at all possible

Base gas varies widely.
When I was stationed at Hickam,
The main gas station gas made my car (at the time a 93 Shadow)
run like shit,
However the shoppette gas station my car ran great on.
All I can say is experiment.
My last tank was Shell, and Ive been getting more KR then normal.
Either I got soem bad gas, or I accidently filled up with the wrong Octane.
So im gona take it easy till im almost empty and try the Cheveron station
to see if its any better.

2 months late.. hahah

Put the minimum octane the vehicle manual calls for but do not go below that. For instance, mine says 91 so I put in 91. If 91 isnt available I put in 93.

nizzle 08-02-2011 01:42 PM

Shell or Chevron 92+ only for me

SSPainter 08-02-2011 06:38 PM

BP, Shell, Mobil, sunoco

93+ All the same around here.

Just found this in the owners manual

Fuel
Use of the recommended fuel is an important part
of the proper maintenance of this vehicle. To help
keep the engine clean and maintain optimum vehicle
performance, we recommend the use of gasoline
advertised as TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.
Look for the TOP TIER label on the fuel pump to
ensure gasoline meets enhanced detergency standards
developed by auto companies. A list of marketers
providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline can be
found at Top Tier Gasoline.

Gasoline Specifications
At a minimum, gasoline should meet ASTM
specification D 4814 in the United States or
CAN/CGSB‐3.5 or 3.511 in Canada. Some gasolines
contain an octane-enhancing additive called
methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
We recommend against the use of gasolines containing
MMT. See Additives on page 6‑8 for additional
information.
