Possible 62mpg mandatory by 2025

Unless we come up with some pretty amazing hybrids then we could be seeing the death of fun in about 15 years. its supposed to be between a low of 47 and a high of 62mpg. either way that would probably spell the death of the v8 unless they can change it into something like a 3.0l turbo v8 with hybrid assist, would still be a high revving beast. in the end it might be the time to start investing in some battery producers and aluminum companies because they are going to benefit greatly.

That's crazy Soon we are gonna hear damn vacuum cleaners on the road and no v8 :( or the smell of high octane in the morning lol

I guess no one realizes the huge environmental impact from strip-mining the resources to make batteries (nickel), then the large amount of fuel used to ship said material to Europe for processing, from there to China, and back again.

if they would switch a lot of red lights out for roundabouts it would save a hell of a lot of time and keep traffic moving. hybrids were never the way but the best idea would be diesel electrics. im still baffled as to why hybrids arent diesels. if they get the same mileage why not combine the two. and an electric car once they get the kinks worked out should be awesome. i love the torque of an electric motor. if they had a solid electric car that could get the same range and performance of say a new 5.0 then i would buy the electric. cars should hopefully get lighter when they make the switch as they wont need to have a bunch of sound deadening material between the engine bay and the car since it is already quiet. front end could get a bit more streamlined since the engines arent taking up a huge amount of space up there. but im gonna call it 25-30 years before we get a decent replacement and even then IC motors will survive. as more hybrids and electic cars or fuel cell whatever starts to take over get on the road then less people need gas and the prices wont fluctuate as much or they will drop a good bit. then all the oil lasts longer and those who love V8's can still use them.

The reason is the complexity of getting it to work. Mitsubishi makes a Hybrid Diesel and from what I have heard they have nothing but drive train issues. Diesel engines don't like being turned on and off again They are better at running at a set RPM. Kind of like how marine engines are made for a certain RPM range.

I swear I have been saying this for more than a few years.

How about turning the traffic signals to night mode around 6:30 instead of 10pm and adjusting them from the hours between 9:30am and 3pm to something more like night mode??

Dart_SI 11-04-2010 09:42 PM

they should make e85 mandatory. fuck yea

Driver1 11-04-2010 09:44 PM

Oh...meant to say something else.

Is it 62mpg average fleet MPG?? If so what is the average for a 0 emission car and a 8mpg 454ci turbo?..

....unlimited mpg X 4mpg / 2 = 0 average mpg
