All work is being done by me, myself and I

Attachment 48713

I removed as little as possible that was not broken but enough for me to gain access to the damage and for repairing/replacing.
Here are some of the thing that need to be replaced :(
  • both headlights
  • front fascia
  • bumper reinforcement
  • both wheel liners
  • radiator
  • intercooler
  • hot side intercooling piping
  • lot of little brackets and misc stuff.
  • left rail!!!

Attachment 48714
Got it up on the frame machine and hooked up the laser measuring (Chief's Velocity)
Took forever to get it pull back into shape. Had a few busy weeks in my shop.

Cut apart the Rail... There is a GM sectioning procedure (but that was to cut all the way around the rail and it included removing the upper tie bar. I just removed one half)
Attachment 48719
Welded the easiest first.

ALL welded up.

UBER RE-Corrosion protection

royce777 11-25-2012 09:36 PM

damn! atleast your doing it yourself so it will be done to your standards

UgliestTurtle 11-25-2012 09:52 PM

Now here is a quick debate im having... Do i paint the rail yellow again or do i just metal etch primer and apply something like this http://3mcollision.com/media/catalog...mmm08882-1.jpg

It comes out a textured black but has a better corrosion protection then actually painting it.

#I_Haul_Ass 11-25-2012 09:56 PM

so who didnt have license and hit your car? the guy driving the pea pod or the mechanic?

BlkWdoSS 11-25-2012 10:09 PM

damn, sad to hear, good to see you piecing it back together and putting some upgrades in it, I probably wouldve just bought it back from the insurance company and parted it out and bought another one lol

Im making a good amount of money on top of the upgraded parts so its not all bad. But I do have to go to court on the 9th to fight the ticket for failure to yield (bunch of BS right). So far here is what I got aftermarket/upgraded since the collision occurred: projector-HID'S, ZZP LNF intercooler package, ZZP re-tune, GMS1, and painting my rims white (Subaru white to be exact)

As a CDL driver, what was the circumstances of what you were doing vs. the other guy?

Regardless if the mechanic had a license or not, I imagine the company's insurance company would cover it regardless

Nfamous60 11-27-2012 12:39 PM

^^^^ i would hope so.

Pinky Demon 11-27-2012 08:39 PM

Cool project. Good to see another guy fixing up a wrecked Cobalt on here.

LS6Rally 11-27-2012 09:55 PM

nice to see you get to fix it yourself. nothing but the best! i would probably paint the frame rail, you can see it where the headlight is. if it were me i would just undercoat it, but my car has a shitton of miles

Nothing wrong with that at all. Build it to last.

coming out very nice, great job man, glad to see you're doing the work and doing it right

TWM Performance 12-03-2012 09:09 AM

I like the white! Always found it gave the car a little "rally-sport" style. As for the discount, PM me and we'll work on a price!

Best regards,

An update on the car...

How to do an Evo Mod Properly (Should I make a How to?)

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...aee8e7b6bc5ccd
All waterborne base paint
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...1cf2e44bbb3da4
There is the front lip (spoiler?)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...6369b99e7c0003
High quality thin tape to get prefect straight lines (very hard to get any two tone on waterborne paint. I need to research the amount of time to let the first color dry before applying tape to the paint.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...94e54bdd0ebefc
I forgot to snap pics of the black base but here it is all cleared and finished
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...8570f226e06ace
And another view
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...c4bf6c168c76fd
I also painted the grill black and cleared it as well.

Corrosion protection (still an on going project)

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...93811f965a4b2c
Clean up and will bear metal scrached and applied some etching primer then some heavy duty seam sealer. (this will last longer then any other metal part of the car)

I also put black under coating on the rocker

P.S. I painted my ground effects and put the under coating on the bottom as well.
I will have more/better photos soon

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...52d3d856286a87
I love it but I need to do some more fit and finish (If anyone knows about the headlight fitment let me know.)
