Are all ECOTEC oil pans the same?
Alright so idk if i posted this in the wrong spot but if i did im sorry and I know some of you will say "why dont you google it" well i did and got no straight forward answer. Alright so last night 5/24/14 i went up a canyon for a fire with some friends and didnt know how bad the trail would be so i ended up cracking my oil pan and wondering if an oil pan off a 2.2 cobalt or a HHR will fit my 2006 cobalt ss/sc? I would really like a straight forward answer that will answer this because i dont want to be bumming rides to work.
Thanks Manny. |
They r different but they all do bolt up.
The lsj pan is the biggest of them all. Holds more oil. Gm put it on for a reason. |
Just know if you use a different oil pan that it holds less oil. They put a bigger one on to extend oil changes but the LSJ oil pan also has the worst slosh control for the oil.
|
Could i put a saab 9-3 oil pan on it or would a hhr 2.2 pan work or cobalt 2.2 one work also? Cause i know those are 5qt pans would i have over heatin problems or not enought oil problems?
|
No issues you'd just add 5 instead of 6.5 quarts.
Any ecotec 2.2/2.4 or 2.0 oil pan will work. |
Sweet thanks now that i took of the pan i didnt see a gasket do i just use silicone from the dealer that is specific to it or does stuff at O'Reilly work
|
Any should work.

will a lnf oil pan bolt bolt up to a LDK?
|
I am 95% sure they do. I believe that is what Kappa people need to do when they do the swap.
|
All of the oil pans will bolt up but they are NOT the same. Biggest thing you need is the proper dip stick and pick up tube for whatever oil pan you have.
Ldk holds 6 quarts. Kappa needs the lnf or le5 pan ldk pan will not work 100% guarenteee |
I thought it was the LSJ pan that holds quarts? I have a trap door oil pan from Powell that he says was made from a new LDK pan and my oil capacity is still 5 quarts.
|
LDK is 6 quarts (mine usually takes ~5.5qt IIRC)

Which dipstick do you use?
|
I'm using the LSJ dipstick. Maybe I have an LNF pan. Idk.
|
Usually the LDK/LHU came with the sensor installed AFAIK. I guess there could have been applications that didn't use it. The outside shapes are all going to be different even though they bolt up the same (that's why the LDK pan doesn't work on the Solstice/Sky), so there would be a way to know if you had a picture of all of them. Powell knows his stuff, but it's entirely possible he got crossed up when telling you which pan you have.
