Brakes question -
Hi - Why do these parts have different tips? The middle one looks like it is missing a steel ring, the one on the right and the one on the left are very different - why? It looks like the left or right ones go into different places - how do we know which goes where? So how come they're different?
I know this is probably a very basic brake question but it would be good to know what's up. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cob...175cf065b3.jpg I took these out without tracking where each one belongs... |

Ok thanks that clears it up.
I found these brakes on eBay - is there anything to be concerned about in getting brakes from eBay? I know with other items it could be a problem but these look pretty good. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-Complete-F...fits=Year:2006 Model:Cobalt Submodel:SS Engine+-+Liter_Display:2.4L&hash=item2380a6addb:g:CwkAAOSw ZMZa6f0H The price is right anyway. |
I would be weary since there is no brand name on those.

Good point thanks.
I found one that has a warranty and a brand name, and not bad feedback from the web. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Front-Rear-R...fits=Year:2006 Model:Cobalt Submodel:SS Engine+-+Liter_Display:2.4L&hash=item48820db33e:g:x8wAAOSw OZpa2Tq7 Canadian reviewers seem to like 'em. 78% pass on reviewmeta.com - fairly decent warranty. |
I had Max Brakes. They were trash. You just can't have quality at that price point.

I have these now with the carbon ceramic for about a month. I'm doing hard braking (120km/h to 40-50km/h) daily because people in Toronto are stupid when it comes to driving. I don't have problems with them, but again, 1 month of use. If I can get 1-2 years, they're worth the price.
The complaints I've read are about sound - I don't have all seasons but do have snows, and in winter, the snow will muffle the sound, or I'll turn the radio up loud. Alternatively, since they're warrantied, I can return them. The economy brakes in my part of Ontario were $380.00. And the fact that they're Canadian made is encouraging. The price I'm paying is $50 per wheel disk and rotor, so I'm not expecting to take the car to the track. That said, it all sounds so reasonable. Truth is, I ordered the brakes and pads before I read Clueless call them crap. So there's that. lol I'll eat it. I want the engine in the car and the car on the road by the time the snow flies. And I'd like the rear wheels on the car this week so I can drop or raise the engine from the car. My goal is to first get it running, then certified and on the road - Job 1. Once the engine drama is over, I'm removing the supercharger and engine bay bits from the SS SC, injectors, in case I decide I want another project over winter. |
Mine warped within a month. Pads were cooked after one quick stop.
Centric parts I put on last year still look and feel great. And in the end of wasn't that expensive. |
