Can anyone get traction?
Can anyone get traction?
Launching this thing is a bitch! Its so hard to get traction through first gear. Even when I'm starting from a roll and I hit it I break free and don't fully grab until second gear. Tips?

Wider tires, feather throttle and clutch.

Funny how in some other threads people say "I have never needed/missed having LSD" but in this thread they say "how do you keep the front tires from spinning at launch?"
How ironic!
Too bad the delays had to screw it up for some of us.
Oh, and JapEatr, Hello from Houston!

Yeah but the LSD doesn't help with the absolute traction of the front tires. I would wager the LSD folks will have simular issues.
I think where the LSD will shine is in the corners where the drive wheels don't share the same traction.
I think we need a explaination of Limited Slip Differentials on this site.
People act like SS's without LSD are slower and spin because of no LSD.
I don't really see any benifit of LSD on a FWD anyway. There is enough weight that 99%both tires spin and power the car in a straight line and in corners if a open diff spins so will a limited slip.

Thats what V8 RWD cars are for.
If you watch the Motorweek video of the 1/4mile runs that is on this site then you will "hear" that the SS/SC that was epuipped with the LSD (that's what they had for testing) doesn't seem any better than the non-LSD car in a drag racing scenario. If you watch that video you will here them squealing the tires through first and partially through second.
Also, I belive in the SRT-4 comparison article that Motor Trend did, they said that the LSD wasn't working in an optimal condition in the SS/SC due to the was that Chevy had some suspension components setup.(To stiff of a swaybar on the front or something like that)

I bought an 03 SRT-4 which did not have the factory LSD. About a month ago I swapped in a 04 tranny (w/ factory LSD) and there is a huge difference. In straight line accel under less than optimal conditions (read crappy track prep at the local dragstrip on "street night") I dropped about a tenth off my 60' time.
Accelerating out of corner is where the big difference is. With the open diff, hammering it out of a corner resulted in nothing but tire-smoke from the inside wheel. With the LSD, the inside tire still does squeal, but not as bad as before and the car hooks up and takes off. Before I put the aftermarket springs on, the back end would actually swing out in a hard corner under acceleration.
Can't wait to get the baffles installed in the oil pan (I removed the balance shaft assy & now need something to keep all the oil from running to the ends of the oil pan under heavy cornering) so I can run it in an AutoX and see how it does.
So my recommendation would be, if you can get it with a LSD, do it.
