down shifting to speed up.

hey guys, just a question for ya'll. is it easier/harder on the engine when you down shift to speed up?
example: you on the interstate doing 65 mph, you have to slow down to 50 mph. then your able to speed back up speed to 65 mph again. do you down shift to speed up or is easier on the engine to just give it gas to get to your desired mph.
thanx:cssNET:

Depends on how fast I want to get there. The 2.2 at 2K isn't very lively. If i'm at 50 I'll downshift. (Sometimes to third.)

and always blip the throttle. ;)

the cobalt does seems to prefer down shifting to speeding up.
sometimes i ll be going up and over a bridge and get tired of people zipping pass me while i m in 5th. so much that i ll down shift to 4th( sometimes 3rd ) so they can see my sex aSS pass them.

staying in 5th is more fuel efficient if you gradually speed up, but if you mash the pedal, might as well downshift. It's all in how you drive, neither will hurt the car, unless you over do it, like over rev or under rev and the car is struggling to keep going.

buy an auto, then you don't have to worry about it LOL.

depends on the situation, but as long as you do it properly its fine
