Drove a 2010ss Turbo yesterday. Was sort of underwhelmed
I've been hunting the used market for quite some time and took my first turbo ss for a drive yesterday. I was a bit underwhelmed. I also own a 95 Z28 with about 390hp to the wheels so maybe this is skewing my experience. The SS turbo felt similar to any other 4 banger i've driven when i first press the pedal until suddenly when the boost comes on and then its hold on. It was no doubt fast but it didn't feel powerful. First time I've driven a turbo car. Is this normal or was the car not running well? Does the supercharged version give a better seat of the pant experience? I'm going to test drive one of those this weekend. On paper a stock turbo cobalt should be close to a stock 95 camaro. I'd rather feel fast than be fast.
Is this normal or was that turbo cobalt not running right?

For me cars are like women no reason not to date blondes brunettes and red heads. Try them all😀. I'm just wondering if that is how a turbo car is supposed to feel. The Camaro runs 11.9 now. I'd a fun everyday 13 second car too. If you like fast cars doesn't matter what you drive you have my respect.
Was that a normal turbo experience though?

Serious. The Camaro has full bolts ons and a head and cam package but its summer only. I also once lost a race to a supercharged cobalt when the camaro was stock. It opened my eyes.

I dunno what to tell you. a tuned/bolted turbo SS is pretty quick. Its not "fast" per se because the stock turbo falls off pretty fast. but its enough to surprise a lot of people. you seem to have a summer car, so if you did get an SS turbo just get a solid HP tune and catless downpipe.

I think you're right. It's the lag of a turbo I was feeling. Just the nature of the beast. I will try out a supercharged version on saturday.
BTW I've learned so much from the members here. Downpipes, tunes, boost. Turbos are all new to me. Thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't say dissapointed just wondering what I should expect. Every type of motor makes its power differently. I used to have a little 600cc sportbike low 11's. It felt like a sling shot but didn't have that kick in pants feeling but so fast. V8's have that low end throw you around inside the car with a stab of the throttle feeling. Fun until you realize how much gas costs. I will be buying a Cobalt SS just not sure if turbo sc but its happening. I drive a Kia rio in the winter and I am SICK of it!
Cobalts with fwd, traction control and abundant power for the dry days is a winter dream.

Also from what I've read. With a downpipe intake and a trifecta tune I'd be looking at low 13's high 12's. Its true its not always about which car is faster unless you only go to the strip. Feel is important. Variety is the spice of life. Gen 4 Camaro's are practically being given away if you haven't experienced the feel of a V8 i strongly suggest it. Its not like we're married to our cars. We can have more than one.

I drove one in 08 one year after buying my 07 sc and thought the same thing. Gotta go with a big turbo swap, but then you can kiss the trans goodbye.
If I was on the market now I'd look for a low-mile stock SS TC, probably an 09 to avoid the porous block issue.

Love the vids. I won't be going that extreme. I've already been through broken tranny's and a broken rear end on the camaro. I am prepared to blow out the clutch on the cobalt and thats about all I'm really willing to do to the driveline. Looks like its pretty unanamous. Go for the turbo. What build dates should I avoid on the 09 to avoid the pourous blocks? Are all the 08's and 10's safe? Also I think I read all the 10's in Canada got an LSD so I think I'm pretty set on a 2010.

I'm in the York Region just north of Toronto. I'm currently looking at one with 184 000km about 115 000 mi. Seems a little high to me. I know Civics can go almost forever until the body falls apart from the salt. How many miles/km are the Cobalt SS usually good for?

I seen there's a 2010 for $8888 with only 109kms on it on Autotrader. I would check that first.

Thats the one I drove. Its in Woodbridge. Really nice guys there too. I'm not crazy about the roll bar in the back though. Sort of says to me its been Xcrossed or raced. Good news on the 250 000 and you said miles not km? Thats impressive.
