Finally took one for a test drive

So, the past year or so, i've been wanting to get a Cobalt SS/SC. So then today, I took an 07 one for a test. As soon as I sat in it, I knew right away, this was going to be a nice car to drive. I took it on the highway. Very nice on the highway. Took it down a street with lots of bumps. It was a little rough but thats fine. I found the shifting to be very smooth. It's a very quick car. It will probably be sold when I do get one but thats fine. They said they will order me a new one when I decide to get one. So i'll be trading my 06 Dakota in for one of these. Probably won't be until Mid June or so.

So, today I went to see what I have left on my truck. It wasn't a very pretty number. Chances of me trading my truck in for the Cobalt is pretty much slim to none. So then I went to see GM. They even said it's not looking good. So I was there for good 1.5 hours, tring to figure out some stuff. We came up with 3 options.

1. Some how get $10000 for a down payment. Yeah. It's that bad.

2. Pay almost $850 a month. Yeah. It's really bad now.

3. Try and find someone to take over the payments. Okay. It looks good now. Maybe.

I would go for option 2 but I just don't have that kinda money right now for a monthly payment. If I got a 2nd job, working on the weekends, while I work my full time job during the week, I can afford it. Or I can find a job where I can work in the mornings until I gotta go to my full time job. So yeah.

See the thing about option 3 is, my dad co-signed the truck for me. So if I do get someone to take over the trucks payments. Then I find out that I need a co-signer for the car. I'm pretty much screwed cause my dad won't sign for anything that has to do with GM.

I really want this car. But I guess i'm going have to see what is going to happen. Honestly, if I gotta work night and day to get one of these cars. I will do so.

Im in that same position. Hence why im still in my LT and not a SS or SS SC. My dealer said that its do-able but the monthly payments would be a little high. Even other dealers said the same thing. Wait it out. After about 2-3 years owning the car then it will have some value for a trade in. Have you tried looking for a used one?

Wow, your not going to have time to enjoy the car cause you'll be working so much!! Relax and tone it down a little.
Have you tried looking at just the SS version?? It may lossen up some money for you so you don't have to be a slave for your car and have some fun time to enjoy it. Then maybe later on, move up to supercharged status. Something to think about.

I still dream of test driving a SS/SC... someday I'll do it.

I don't know about trading in your new 06 truck already man...

If you're that upside-down in the truck, your best bet is probably to keep it for a while and get as much of it paid-off as you can. You're going to end up paying over 30 grand for a $20K car otherwise, especially after finance charges and the like.

I know that's not what you want to hear, but take it from me... in the long-run, you'll thank yourself. There's nothing worse than being in debt.

My dad hates GM so much is, when I was born, he had a Cutlass Supreme, and was having engine trouble. So he took it in, and got it fixed. Or thought it was fixed. 4 days later, the engine blew. My dad and the owner got into a big fight. They were going to put in a rebuilt engine but he wanted a new one. So he almost through the owner through the window. After that happened he never drove another GM again. But before this happened, this is all he drove. Then in 96, he had a Mustang and simular thing happened. Then he went to Dodge. Only problem he was having was the power steering hoses kept on blowing on him. But then once he got his Chrysler Pacifica, the problems started again.

But after I spoke with the Sales Man about the SS/SC, I was doing some thinking of my own. I know it would be kinda pointless to trade in the truck after 7 months of owning this truck. But i'm just having too many problems with this thing. It only has 3500 km's *approx 2200 miles* on it. It already needs a new power steering system, posibilty a new tranny *i'm not a rough driver or anything*, it sometimes locks up when I can to a complete stop. So I have to put it into Park and back into drive to move. A wheel alinment needs to get done too. 2 nights ago my belt blew. Some days, my A/C don't wanna work. Like this is way too many problems with a vehicle with this much km's on it. Maybe, I just got a lemon. I get all the recommened maintmence done on it. So yeah.

Maybe i'll wait until Summer of 08 cause then i'll have my truck for almost 2 years then.

I know, most of you will probably flame me for this one lol. So on monday, I went back to GM. This time they looked over my truck and everything. While they did that, I took the car for another test drive. Came back in about an hour. They said they won't give me anymore then $17000 for my truck. Like WTF. I paid almost $40000 for this thing. After they said that, I just walked out. So then, something I wouldn't expect I would do or anything, I go over to Honda. Looking at their cars and that, made my stomach turn. So then, about 10 mins later. The sales man walks up to me. Asked him what I was looking for. I told him a car. He told me to follow him to the showroom. I went with him. He walked me over to the new 2007 Civic Si. He gave me the keys to go take it for a test drive. So I did. Came back within, 45 mins. They looked for my truck, and got pretty much all the paper work done. They are going to give me $24000 for my truck. They are going to give me 0.9% financing on it. So right now, i'm a proud owner of a Civic Si. I took it over to GM and showed them what I got and told them the deal I got on it. They got extremly pissed off with me and told me never to come back onto the lot again. It's not my fault GM didn't want me to give me a good deal on the Cobalt. I just got a way better deal at Honda.
