Exclamation Lordstown to add third car. (Cobalt/G5 plant) Just on loca news.

GM Lordstown is apparently prepping to add an aditiona car to its assembly. It was just on the local news here that for 08, they will supposedly be adding the opel astra to the production line.

That was pretty much it, just a 6:00 news blip. Does that mean that the 2.0 Turbo motor will be a go then?

Later,
Chris~

The "astra" will be the next Saturn Ion... which probably will be what the Cobalt/G5 goes to as well when time comes for a major refreshing. So yes... 2.0T will be a go...

I figured as much on the 2.0T motor for 08, I just figured that this was just more of a confirmation of that.

I wouldn't say 2008... the Ion was around for a year or so before the Cobalt... so maybe the Cobalt will get a refreshing in 2009... but the Ion should be redone for 2008...

I saw that you said 2.0T. I noticed that the Saab 9-2X Aero has a 2.5T in it. what would make it that different why dont they just use that motor? any ideas

I wasn't aware of a 2.5T, but I haven't really looked into the saabs, opels, etc. I just figured the 2.0T DI motor was the motor of choice, or would be. Perhaps they'll incorporate whatever turbo motor they use in the solstice GXP, and turbo sky. (?)

They put a subaru wrx turbo motor in the 9-2x, thats why. They want to create their own turbo motor so they dont have to pay subaru for each car sold, and considering the large amount of vehicles that will be equipped with the 2.0 DI it was a good move to create their own.
