LSJ cooling fan question
 
Hey guys, I need a little help. I'm swapping my single fan L61 radiator fan for an LSJ dual-fan. I need a schematic of the fan wiring harness on the LSJ. On mine, there is a single 3-lead harness, on the LSJ there are 2 separate plugs. I have the two cut ends attached to the motors of the salvage two-fan one I got. I need to know what to splice to make it work.

Below is a scan of the ALLDataDIY schematic for my car with highlights over the three leads I need to figure out. I need a similar picture of the LSJ cooling fan harness. That will solve the problem.

On the bottom is the one out of my L61 single fan. You can see three leads plainly. Above that are the two plugs from the two motors of the LSJ fans where the salvage yard cut the harness. The fan plugs are the same, but only have two leads going to each. I need to know where those cuts ends go.

Yeah dude I feel what you are going through my Z24 cavi has the same swap and it took some time to figure out. You will figure it out for sure breh. I do have a question though bro, I keep on throwing this code - P0683 and I cant figure It out!!! It starts hard and seems to smoke a bit at idle. Do you have any idea what this could be>?

seems straight forward instead of a 2 speed fan you want 2 different fans you have 2 relays so it should be ok.. from the diagram looks like you just have to match the colors lt blue to lt blue grey to grey and tie the white and black wires to the black wire on the 3 wire harness for ground. then plug that 3 pin harness back to the car..
That black thing in the middle of the 3 wire harness is probably a diode to protect the circuit when the relays switch the fan from low speed to high speed but since your sending the power from each relay to a separate fan it wont be needed.. only question is which fan do you need to be the high and low.

That is most certainly one way that would work. I would like to compare to the actual LSJ schematic however to be thorough.

Thank you very much, that solved it. It appears the system runs both fans in series when on "low" and then separately in parallel when on "hi". I will need that relay "COOL SER/PAR" to make it work. I've ordered it from Tom at CED.

I'll report how it works when I'm done.

That is my intention. This is not an easy one. There is the short cut way (which I'm doing at the moment) and then there is the correct way that rewires the underhood circuit box. I intend to do that over the spring. I want to get a salvage box to modify to I don't have my car disabled while I'm working on it. Gimme some time, it will happen.

So I'm getting ready to do this same swap in my LE5 and I have NO idea where to start. Electrical stuff confuses me anyhow so a how-to/walkthrough would be fantastic! I have the LSJ OE H/E and radiator fan assembly and can't even begin to figure out how they go together ! HELP!

Not really sure I understand your question, or what you needa howto/help for. Keep in mind that the schematic posted in the first post is NOT an LSJ Schematic.

There are two ways to do this. One way makes it work. The other way makes it work correctly. To make it work correctly is a bit advances, requiring a little rewiring of the engine fuse box. I have this on my project bench but never got a real chance to work on it last year.

The easy way is to connect the large fan of the dual LSJ set up to the low speed lead of the single fan harness and connect the smaller fan to the high speed lead. But the correct set up spins both fans at different speeds. That's my goal.
