Need help!!!!!

So the past two days I have been driving and have been sitting in some traffic and I have two problems. First, if I am just sitting in traffic and not moving my a/c won't blow out cold air, only warm air. Do our cars needto be moving for the a/c to work? Should I run to walmart and pick up some refrigerant to recharge the system? And second, cooling mode has come on both day and I can't figure out if it is normal or not, this only the second time it has ever come on in my car. Las time my coolant temp was around 225* when I noticed it was on, but this time I was running real hot, around 260*, and it dropped only to about 250* until I started moving again. Is this normal for hot weather? If something is wrong, what could it possibly be? Thanks advance for any input guys!!!

Anyone?

Only a fujita cold air intake, I'm a 2.2 btw, if that makes any difference.

That does seem to be very hot. I mean i dont even know if my car is okay. Last night it was like 70 degrees and i was pushin a coolant temp of around 207. Is you car still under warrenty? go to a chevorlet dealership and have it coded. It could be your coolant is low.

the coolant temp doesn't necessarily mean your running hot. its the engine temp/iat's you gotta worry about. You don't have enough mods to actually mess up anything. Just don't put that crappy freon in your car from walmart, it most likely has sealer in it that leads to a/c compressor failure. just pay $100 to have the a/c looked at and have the correct amount put in. My coolant temps haven't been that high though, so idk what the deal is with yours?

I'm sure it has to do with idling in traffic, but i didn't think my coolant temp would be that high just from sitting. its dark now so I'll check the coolant and fan connections in the morning before work, thanks for the input though!!

260 is very hot. Its been 95ish here the past week or two and the highest I've hit is 213. Normally it stays between 189 and 199. I try to put the ac on when I sit to make the fans kick on. I've also got the 2.2. And no, your ac should work at all times. Definitely try avoiding 260F, I'm pretty sure thats damn near close to red on a regular gauge.
