I dont really think that it goes by miles alone, but according to how you drive, operating temps, ect.

no, it runs till your oil needs changing... could be 1000 could be 8k all depends on how you drive and how dirty your oil gets.

Yup. If you like to tear around town it will go down faster.

I've heard the amount of percentage gone depends on the engine rpms, if you run at rpms higher then a certain point then it goes down about 3 times as fast than it would at cruising or idle rpms.

it also takes into account ur oil viscosity and all that stuff...and the heat cycles ur oil is exposed too.

i change it every 3,000 miles. i always intend to do it at 2,500 but i don't get around to it till about 3,000. at 3000 my meter says about 50% i personally wouldnt let it get any lower than that. if you wait 5 or 6000 miles your oil is probably filthy and your risking damage to your motor

According to my dealership, and you know how they try and get you to come if far more often then necessary, one cobalt came in for an oil change after 1 year with his oil gauge still around 20%. When they dumped the oil apparently it still looked like it had some life in it.

What they told me was wait till it hits 25%, then make an appointment for within the next month.

ive always changed mine every 2500-3000... you might not have to change it til later but why let your oil get as bad as it can before you change it? simple maintenance like that will improve the life of any car and it doesnt take much time or money for what its worth.

bullshit. Synthetic oil actually protects the engine BETTER when it gets dirty!

I use AMSOIL... I beat the hell out of my car... and it takes A LOT of miles for my % to come down. I think the last one took 10,000 miles. It looked like it still had life in it when I drained it too.

AMSOIL says or guarantees their oil can last like 15,000 miles or a year (which ever comes first) in a Turbo/supercharged car... I'm not gonna wait that long... but hey... they're the experts.

I fell if you're running high grade synthetic you don't have any reason to really change it before 5000 miles unless you're actually racing your car on a track. I do mine about every 5000 miles with mobil 1 and thats about 70% of the oil life meter, if i had amsoil which i'm looking to switch over to i'd probably change to 8000 miles (that **** is amazing). There are certain amount of benefit from having some deposits in your oil rather than running new oil constantly.

My car gets pushed to its limits thought-out the warmer months, that’s why I change it around 3000-3500. In the colder month I may push it to around 5000 max.

I just changed my oil yesterday, and the % thingy was at 53%. But I change my oil every 3 months, and that's about how long I've had the car.

Also, I ended up buying the wrong oil, 10w 30 instead of 5w 30, will this affect my car in any way?

I run mine down to about 20% or so, which is usually around 6500-7000 miles... and that is with Conventional oil...

YES

The oil passages are very narrow...go get the right oil

I find it hilarious that from 100% to around 63% it drops at an higher rate and then all of sudden creeps down.
