seatbelt light

is there any way to get the seatbelt light and ringer to not come on (like a fuse or anything) I usually wear a seatbelt, but when I dont feel the need to wear it, i dont want the light to come on

no. just put the seatbelt behind the seat and click it permanently. then you don't have to wear it and the light won't come on or ding at you.

Not to sound like "mom", but put the darn seatbelt on all the time! You are defending yourself against other idiots with that...you can't predict when you might get hit.

Seatbelt + airbags means you probably walk away from a hit.

My guess...you have never been in a serious accident...yet....right? Changes your outlook on occasional seatbelt use....

Whatever you do, don't pull any fuses or do anything like that in order to turn off the light. You'll definitely mess things up, so consider this a warning.

And finally....

This video alone should be reason enough to wear a seatbelt. Not preaching, just making a point.

Oh, one other thing...the whole seatbelt warning/light thing is a safety mechanism. If you disable it, and sell the car...or even loan your car to another driver who gets into an accident without their seatbelt...they could sue YOU for making the car less safe....just leave the system alone.

I agree with the general setiment here. Seatbelts may not always be comfortable, but if I didn't wear mine, I would have gone through the windshield in an accident I was in years ago. As it is, all I got was a scratch and a bruise on my knee. You may trust your own driving, but do you trust everyone else on the road? I didn't trust the lady that turned in front of me, and because of that, my head didn't get buried into my windshield (or go though it).

Also, if you're not wearing a belt and your airbags deploy, it's going to **** you up.

Here's what happened when they passed the seat belt law here in Maryland. At first I HATED it! Who the **** were they to tell me I have to were my seatbelt! God damn govt! Fast forward a few months me and my buddy Marty are out cruising in my 1980 Turbo Trans Am, we leave from County Car Audio and see 2 Baltimore County cops drive past so I tell him "we better put our stupid seatbelts on so they don't give us each a $50 ticket. God I really hate these damn things!" We make a right turn onto Liberty road and head for the beltway. We get in the left turn lane and wait for the light, it turns green we pull out laughing and BSing. Marty screams "LOOK OUT!" but too late we got nailed by a Ford Taurus doing 80 in a 45 and that just ran the red light. We were spun around and slamed into a Lincoln waiting at the light accross the intersection and drove the Lincoln into a Ford pick up in the lane to the right.

I remember turning off the car and looking at Marty, he was holding his head and rocking back and forth and holding his right leg with the other hand. The passenger side window was sticking out of the side of the car about 2 feet from the door tracks bending, how it didn't break I'll never know. My car was destroyed, everything from the passenger door back was smashed to ****. Marty went to the hospital and the ambo drivers and the cops all said the same thing.......THANK GOD HE WAS WEARING HIS SEATBELT OR THAT GLASS WOULD HAVE SHATTERED, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN FROM THE CAR AND CRUSHED BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE LINCOLN I WAS SPUN INTO.

Had it not been for the cops driving past we would never have been wearing them and Marty would have been killed. After that day him and I ALWAYS were our seatbelts no matter what we're driving, no matter how short the trip. No one rides with us if they won't wear their seatbelts its that simple.

The 2 - 5 seconds it takes to put on, any level of discomfort you feel, could in no way ever = you being killed or a friend being killed. Or worse being paralised from the neck down. Sorry if I sound like a dad but I am one so I'll preach at anyone who needs it. And you my friend NEED IT!

ALLWAYS WERE YOUR SEATBELT! It could save your life.

This has been a public service anouncment from Jackalope. Thank you and good night.

I usually wear my seatbelt in my car, I have the recarro seats and I don't have a chime, I have the light but it goes off after about 15 to 30 seconds. Sometimes I won't wear it if it's like a short trip or got other things on my mind but it does feel wierd with out it and put it on quick, it should just become a automatic reaction. What's funny though is I have actually caught myself reaching for the seatbelt when I'm on my motorcycle. Must be my version of a blond moment. Sometimes I wonder cause I do ride a lot why I bother wearing my seatbelt in my car since I take such a bigger risk on my bike but I guess in a car I'm not always watching out for everyone trying to kill me. I do love the dumbasses in the government that think a seatbelt on a motorcycle would be a good idea. I would rather go flying off the thing then being strapped to it.
