Sport Red tintcoat paint

i need some information on this paint.. tomorrow i am going to get my spoiler painted and the person who is going to paint this says this color is only a 2 stage paint (base and clear) but someone else said that this color is a 3 stage color (base, pearl, and clear) he also doesnt know what a tintcoat is.. well, i dont either but i dont paint cars for a living either.. but anyways, does anyone know where i can get documentation of whether this paint is a 3 stage paint or not? i want to show the painter. thanks alot.

Sport red is tintcoat not a typical 2 stage paint . The base coat is silver pearl and the color is made by a tinted transparent clearcoat , then a clear . If u want to know exactly what the process consists of , you can 1) go to local chevy dealer body shop or 2) Go to a automotive paint supplies store that sells Dupont , PPG ect paint . They can tell u the formula for the color by your paint code .

yeah but does it mater that gm charges more for a color? just because they charge more doesnt mean that its automatically going to be a 3 stage paint does it?

Why would they charge more if it did warrant more work?

I told him all the same things, but I know he's confused cause the painter is telling him its a 2 stage.

Like I said man just go ask the dealership.

I run a collision center and can tell you that it is a 3 stage paint. When he pulls the paint code off of your car he will find that out.

He is correct. I looked in my Dupont computer. It offers both formulas. You can do the three stage or the 2 stage replacement. Honestly, it is cheaper and easier to do the 2 stage replacement.

what place is painting it for you. I know most the body shops around and Im not to confident it will match. I would have said car star on Niagar falls is you best bet in amherst area. Dave does all my work and used to do custom work but moved on to something more stable. I hope it works out but Im kinda worried for you

I'm a painter in a collision shop. This is a 3 Stage paint, (base, mid-coat, clear). I wouldnt trust the 2 stage to match very good, in my experiences they dont match very good. If you know the guy, tell him to spray you out a let-down panel (if he doesnt know what that is, take it somewhere else).

If your not paying the laboe , I would just buy the proper paint to do it right in the OEM 3 stage fashion . I just cant see the cheaper alternative 2 stage replacement as being an exact match . JMO , dont take offense .
