Timing Chain?

This noise just started happening recently, and I'm not sure if it's the timing chain that's starting to go or the balance belt.
I didn't hear this while driving but when I parked to hop into a store, I heard this rhythmic noise.

Ignore the dirty engine bay

Does sound like possibly the start of chain noise. Could be balance or timing, how many miles you have on that thing now?

I bought the belt already from RockAuto, so I'll just order the timing chain stuff as well.

I was able to verify that cloyes makes our oem timing setup for the 4cyl ecotecs and 3.6 v6's. Only difference is the packaging. When you do it I highly recc all new guides both balance and timing, and new actuators and solenoids.

Yep, cloyes kit will set you straight. Replace chains, guides and tensioners. While youre in there do the water pump/balance shaft chain set too.

I plan on doing the belt as well while I'm in there. They're right in the same area. Just going to be a bitch to work in the small space.
Here's the balancer belt I got: https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/dayco,405K5,,

The hardest part is getting the 13mm bolt for the water pump that goes through the timing cover out. I ended up drilling my own hole through the frame because gm wasnt gracious enough to provide that for me. Luckily there are other holes they added to help remove the belt tensioner.

I don't have any issues with that, once you take the mount off the engine can drop down enough to pull the bolt out.

I didnt have as much of a problem with it until I made mounts that raised the engine. Now its impossible to do without the hole I drilled. it doesnt help that my mounts are solid so even removing the passenger side mount doesnt really drop the engine much. Just something to be aware of.

Didn't think about that, good to know if I ever get mounts for the lnf I need to remove the bolt for them as well. She's too nice to be hacking a hole in the frame.

Mine raise the engine much more than anything you can buy off the shelf.

All my mounts are custom so I can be low and have straight axles.

Damn that Injen intake and dusty engine bay bring back memories. I can't comment on the noise for sure but as others have said not a bad idea to go ahead and replace the components regardless. I'd guess you'd us a different timing chain kit than me because of the VVT but if your water pump and balance shaft chain configuration is the same this is the kit part number:
Cloyes 9-4202S Balance Shaft Kit Cloyes 9-4202S Balance Shaft Kit

Thanks for the link. I should look at changing the gears too then while I'm at it... I didn't think about that.
I'm due for an oil change soon and hopefully it'll warm up before that needs to be done so I can do everything at once.

The timing chain kits come with new sprockets
