Why are used cobalts with very low mile have such a low resale price on them. When I go to car lots, internet site and such, I cant belive that these cars are being sold at the low prices there at. Or arn't these good cars (not saying there junk either) to begin with. When I saw a 2005 SS supercharge w/ 20,000 miles on it, I couldn't belive ,my eyes.

I've seen a 2006 with 10,000 miles go for $17,000. You just have to wheel and deal. I've had no problems and have almost 13,000 miles on mine. I love it!!!!!!!!

Our crazy DealerShip had a 2006 SS 2.4 with 30,000 miles, Stick Shift, Base everything excecpt it had a Sunroof and they was asking $21,000 for it.

I got my 05 LT with 2k for about 12k.

i got my 06 LS for $13k out the door....24 miles on the odometer

It has to deal with resale value of all domestic cars. They do not hold their value to foreign cars due to many factors including
1. high production of American cars vs low importation of foreign cars
2. perceived value of the population is that american cars are worth less than foreign cars

So in effect, any new domestic that is driven off the lot drops drastically in price.

this carmax near me has an SS/SC 06 for $18000 with 10k on it

"foreign cars" have more parts made in america by americans then any of the "american" car companies. Hell Honda is more american than Chevy :lol:

I believe the car is still foreign because the companies headquarters is in Japan, and all the profits, etc still go to japan instead of the American economy.

any "profit" they make pays american taxes same as American co. and foreign co. invest there money in building plants in the US to build cars/parts, were American co. invest in Mexico & Canada to build cars/parts...

It is not so much about holding value as it is about economics. Someone buying a used car will pay roughly the same in monthly payments for a used car as they will for a new car. Sometimes it's due to the new-car specials (low interest rate for example). Because of this the new or used car dealer has to mark-down the car to get it to sell (or it will sit on their lot costing them money).

Why would someone be willing to take a 2-year old car with monthly payments equal to a new car (even though the number of payments might be less -- it is still to their advantage to buy a new car because of the warranty)? The incentive would have to come by lowering the payments enough, by reducing the selling price, to get people to buy a used car instead of a new car.

I bought mine new and don't plan on selling it ;) so i don't care what the resale value is.

Im talking about real foreign companies, not Kia :lol:. I work for a GM carrier & a Honda carrier, i know where there stuff comes from.. Yeah GM invested alot of money into those TX plants b/c they are close to MEXICO where the pieces come from for assembly...And while GM & Ford are cutting 1,000's of jobs, Honda continues to build new plants in the US.

i got a pretty sweet deal...

Are you sure the investment in the TX plants didn't have anything to do with the new Chevy/GMC pickups coming online? Also, if Honda, Toyota, et. al. were forced to unionize their American plants and pay the same taxes on their plants that American manufacturers do (instead of getting tax breaks from the federal gov't), you'll see how fast they pull out of this country - I'd put money on it. Don't kid yourself - they care no more for the American people than the Big 3 do.
