Why is the fuel filler door free for anyone to open?
Another reason to buy foreign I guess. Why doesn't the fuel filler door have a release from inside the car? Anyone can open the filler door and take off the gas cap. They can pour anything into your fuel tank and/or take your gas cap. I don't think they can get a hose down the filler pipe and siphon the gas out of the tank, but I am not sure.
I don't know why this is an issue. You can't siphon, there's a grate that prevents a hose in the tube. And unless you've really pissed some people off, things getting poured into your tank should not really worry you.

If I tried to justify buying a foreign car on a NA auto forum I'd worry about someone getting into my gas tank too.
locking gas cap at canadian tire is 20 bucks. Or you can get one of those complicated caps that screws in, can't be removed, and has a lockable one way valve for about 40-90bucks. I've even seen cars that have the gas door wired into the car's alarm system. Open the door with the alarm armed, boom it goes off. Locks are for honest people anyway, so reguardless what you use, somebody somewhere will find a way around it.
assumptions make and ass of you and me
I did not buy a foreign car, I bought a Cobalt. And I don't think a fuel filler door release is very expensive and that it could lose sales for GM. Also if a locking gas cap is the way to go they should equip the car with one. I think the ASSuming person should be the one worrying.
You obviously are not in any way involved in engineering or manufacturing. The smallest changes can lead to large piece price increases, which on a program with high volume, adds up fast. And on something that requires a cable running cross car, that requires additional assembly and design work for the switch and placement, you're looking at more money than it's worth, to save a few people here and there who can't play nice and have people dumping **** in their tanks.

I shoot thieves
If I caught someone poking a hole in my tank I don't know if I could control myself. Calling the police would be the correct thing to do, however.
name caller
You are a person who calls people you don't know names on the internet. Who is the failure? Look in the mirror. Did I base my decision totally on the fuel filler door? What you say is what you are holds true I guess.
