Another reason to buy foreign I guess. Why doesn't the fuel filler door have a release from inside the car? Anyone can open the filler door and take off the gas cap. They can pour anything into your fuel tank and/or take your gas cap. I don't think they can get a hose down the filler pipe and siphon the gas out of the tank, but I am not sure.

There are "furrin" cars that don't have a remote release gas fill door too. If you're concerned find a locking gas cap.

I don't know why this is an issue. You can't siphon, there's a grate that prevents a hose in the tube. And unless you've really pissed some people off, things getting poured into your tank should not really worry you.

If I tried to justify buying a foreign car on a NA auto forum I'd worry about someone getting into my gas tank too.

Especially for a reason as dumb as a latched gas cap. I can just see Toyota's new ad campaign now...

locking gas cap at canadian tire is 20 bucks. Or you can get one of those complicated caps that screws in, can't be removed, and has a lockable one way valve for about 40-90bucks. I've even seen cars that have the gas door wired into the car's alarm system. Open the door with the alarm armed, boom it goes off. Locks are for honest people anyway, so reguardless what you use, somebody somewhere will find a way around it.

I did not buy a foreign car, I bought a Cobalt. And I don't think a fuel filler door release is very expensive and that it could lose sales for GM. Also if a locking gas cap is the way to go they should equip the car with one. I think the ASSuming person should be the one worrying.

Like cutting a fuel line or punching a hole in your tank (in the news recently -- no kidding). Maybe we should invest in a full body cage for the car....JK!

You obviously are not in any way involved in engineering or manufacturing. The smallest changes can lead to large piece price increases, which on a program with high volume, adds up fast. And on something that requires a cable running cross car, that requires additional assembly and design work for the switch and placement, you're looking at more money than it's worth, to save a few people here and there who can't play nice and have people dumping **** in their tanks.

Yea but you (we) bought a low-end car, not a top-of-the-line one. Every item adds to the cost.

Oh, if you would base your car buying decision on whether or not the gas cap latches, you sir, are a complete and utter moron, and have failed at life.

If I caught someone poking a hole in my tank I don't know if I could control myself. Calling the police would be the correct thing to do, however.

if you don't think it's so expensive then have a conversion done. i'm sure it's possible.
if you're so worried about it then don't be a dick and your internals won't be sugarcoated.

You are a person who calls people you don't know names on the internet. Who is the failure? Look in the mirror. Did I base my decision totally on the fuel filler door? What you say is what you are holds true I guess.

I would prefer that they end up barbequeing themselves... but then it would be the end of your car...it would be "poetic" justic.....
