I like the gas cap the way it is. **** the other style anyways. Ever had one of those in the dead of winter freeze up on you?! My old Astro van had one like that and I almost ran out of fuel trying to open the damn thing.

car is good the way it is. Move out of the ghetto if you have a problem with people pouring **** in your tank

if you're so worried about it then don't be a dick and your internals won't be sugarcoated.
It wouldn't cost much during assembly and it isn't even on expensive GM vehicles.

No, you did not. But even suggesting that not having a latching door would affect vehicle sales is completely laughable. Only a moron would do so. I don't actually know anyone that would even LOOK at the gas door while buying a new car, let alone base their decision on it.

And, please see my post before the one you quoted, about engineering and manufacturing cost of this "inexpensive" feature. THAT is why it was not included on your (our) 12000 dollar econobox.

happened here too last summer. Buddy used a portable drill and drilled a small hole into someone's tank. Dude didn't realize or was to stupid to know that drilling metal(it was a metal tank) causes heat and sometimes sparks. Cops found him under the burning SUV with burns all over his body.

Moral of the story, don't marry your cousins, cause you get REALLY stupid kids.

It might not cost a lot during assembly, but it would be a pricey choice for GM, having to design and buy a switch and cable assembly. Not cheap. The little things add up on vehicles with the ridiculous production volume the cobalt has.

And I'm not just talking out of my ass. I work for an automotive supplier, dealing with switches and assemblies that are small, "unimportant," and "inexpensive" just like this would be. Guess what? Not inexpensive.

I was going to make fun too ("He's right, f*ck the Cobalt what were we thinking? Crazy f*ckers, lets get some Hondas") but I feel bad for the guy after reading all the other jokes.

He is right though, I paid $25,000 for my Cobalt and for that price it should have something for the gas cap area. But it is ok too I suppose, I actually bought a locking gas cap from a CSS.net member.

Edit:

WAIT, WAIT THE ENGINEER CRITICS ARE OUT AND ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!

It wouldn't be a change if it was on the car to begin with like it should have been. Even a 1980 corolla had one.

It still has to be designed, engineered, manufactured sometime, whether it's in the beginning stages of vehicle development or added in 4 years into production. Like I mentioned above, small switches like the one needed to perform this function add up on high volume vehicles. You don't think it's much, and I didn't either until i started working at my current job, but a lot of time and money goes into developing these tiny little details.

Does any of that excuses calling people names? My IQ is in the upper 2% of the popuation. So are you correct in calling me a moron? Does it make you feel good? Do you come on here just rag on people?

True. Guess I will get a locking gas cap if I can find one. The dealer just changed the gas cap because of a check engine light.

It is spelled you're not your. Maybe you should learn how to spell if it is important to you. Won't change the facts of what my IQ is.

it will throw one if it isn't on tight enough too, has to click. Had that happen to me on my blazer. I was told it throws off the mixture/pressure readings?

I could care less about my spelling, I'm just a simple wrenchmonkey. Not in the upper 2% of the IQ pool.

Then why bring the subject of spelling up?

wow that was funny...uhm cable locks are just something else to break and fyi the new g8, some caddys and i think the vette and saabs have various assortments of gas door locking mechanisms...just something else to break IMO...if someone wants my gas bad enough they'll get it (break it open, drill a hole, etc)...i dont fill up my tank more than 1/2 way anyway so they'll get less than $15 worth of gas...im not concerned...apparently i live in the 2nd saftest town in the US (cars out in the driveway with the keys in it right now...come and get it)...enough with the bickering ppl lol

I replace about one fuel door release a week. It would be more of a problem if you were on E and needed to fill up but the release wasn't working. The ones on vettes are electrically actuated and are $50 warrenty cost. Just one more thing to break IMO.
