Is that a direct drop in that would fit even with the bottom of the airbox on?

I was told they were too long to fit prefectly.

If you want to use the lid you either have to cut a hole in the filter or use a dremel and take off the extension the goes into the stock filter. I cut the lid first but have just finished removing the lid and clamping on the filter by drilling a hole. Removing the lid adds much more power and a very nice sound like those above have gotten than just putting in the filter with the lid.

did you clamp that in? the KN has a lot of play in it when you try to put it on ....

as for aluminum cooling better than plasitc? Where did you get that from , metal always absorbs heat more than any thermo plastic.....and plastic doesnt get as hot as fast as metal, aluminum has the fastest heat soak ability thus a lot of heat shields use it...

I decided to keep the stock filter and I drilled three 1.5" holes in the lid and attached screen mesh patches over each hole. It still perked up the SC's sound quite a bit which is all I wanted.

Update*** Make sure if you do this mod to reset your pcm by disconnecting the neg cable for a bit. This really helps to get the PCM working with the greater airflow

did some data logs on the 'balt, sucker does a lot of trimming and runs really rich!
But by adding the new air filter, more O2 is getting in which has leaned out the mix a bit, which is what I am contributing the boost in power to really come from.....

Right, the metal transfers the heat better than plastic thus cooling the air quicker.

LOL, tell that to one with a metal CAI and a plastic CAI....

I have both, on my sunfire the AEM intake ranges the AIT from 115 to 135deg f

on my SS s/c with the new filter and plastic intake the intake AIT is 88-95 or close to ambient

on my SRT-4 with the iceman plastic intake the AIT reads 85-94 or 1-2 deg above ambient

this on a 88-90 degree day and while driving on the highway, at ide the metal intakes jum to over 130-150 deg AIT and the plastics just over 100 hmmmmmm

did you reset the pcm? reset it and let it learn, if you get a ck engine light just reset the code if you have a scan reader or autotap tuning....

Mine came on 1x and was a lean out, have not had one since, just the pcm being overly cautious...

the block learn and short and long fuel trims ARE ALL OVER THE JOINT, lol

I have acquired an K & N filter from a buddy of mine, brand new never used, except there are no adaptor rings with it. Do I need to get adaptor rings to attach it or are they necessary at all?

Dude........Cut the damn filter box off . I did .. I bought an e-1009 k&n filter cut the box off right below the sensor, shaved the tube down a little popped the filter on like a normal CAI and bamm a CAI! Hav had it like that for about a month and a half and it works like a champ and sounds mean. A real head turner.

What is the specifications of the filter's you've used? how long and how wide is it possible to go and what would be the best size to use? I know the inlet is 3.15", but the outside dimensions of the filter. That way when I go to Autozone tonight I can get one that will fit.

So far everything is AOK!

I dont have the specs on the width and tough to get since the filter is sunk in the box, but get the same filter I did or any conical filter that is not crazy big should be fine!

But now I cant hear the intake or s/c over my 3" exhaust, lol

Also if you look at this pic

the filter is a little smaller than the distance of the width so that should help getting a filter to fit

I looked in my local Pep Boys store and no luck on finding the filter you bought. Maybe online? I happen to come across a K&N filter that looked similar. Do you happen to have the dimensions of the filter you got?
