Front Door Speaker Install w/ PICS

Front Door Speaker Install

What you Will Need:

6.5" Speakers (I have Infinity Kappas, I recommend getting an amp to help power new speakers, but you don't have too)

Phillips Screwdriver
Flathead Screwdriver
Wire Cutters
pliers

mounting tape/Self-tapping screws/A drill (Only if you have base sound system)

Write this down, before you go out:

speaker wire colors:
LF Speaker +tan / -gray
RF Speaker +lt. green / - dk. green

1. Start by using a Flathead screw driver and pushing down on this tab to gain access to the screw in the door.

2. Using your Phillips Screwdriver remove Screw.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/076.jpg

3. Using the Flathead again, pull tab out from Door-power window module. Remove two screws using Phillips.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/073.jpg

4.Pull up on Power window module, it should pop out, and remove the cables from it, they should all clip out, don't pull on them, use the flat head to remove them.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/070.jpg

5. On the side of the door there are two grey clips, Use a flat head to pull them out.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/058.jpg

6. You can pull these grey clips apart, they go back in no problem after, just re-insert them.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/069.jpg

7. Pull firmly and straight out on the bottom of the door to unhinge the clips holding it in place, Next pull up on the top of the door to pull the door lock out properly. Just pull on the tweeter box to remove it. I placed it, on the box to rest if comfortably, as it will still be hanging by wires. Also helps move it out of the way.

8. Using a Phillips Screwdriver remove the old speaker.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/060.jpg

9.Un-clip the old speaker, cut this blue clip off, and strip the speaker. I recommend cutting close to the blue piece. There isn't much wire in the door.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/063.jpg

10. Using pliers, twist the speaker wire for easier install.

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/065.jpg

11. Install and re-screw new speaker. - If you have base system, you will have to create you're own holes for new speakers (What the self-taping screws/mounting tape would be for)

http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne1876/066.jpg

12. The easiest way I found to reinstall the door panel was to lay underneath the door and re-insert the two bottom clips first. Make sure also that the door panel at the top, overlaps the window weather strip.

13. Put back together

14. Enjoy your new sound system :-)

It sounds great-

Good part about having the 4-channel amp is you can completely set up the frequency that the front speakers run at -

marsden 07-23-2009 06:13 PM

With the pioneer package wont the stock amp power the speakers? Even with a new head unit?

majourpain 07-24-2009 12:19 PM

Perfect i have been looking for a how to. Thanks GJ man

phatnackySS 07-24-2009 12:35 PM

i would pick up a pair of speaker harness adapters for like 6 bucks. that way you can go back to stock if you have to.or just stripping the wire back on the soldiering the pig tales that came with the speakers to the factory wires while retain the stock plug. also how did you attach the wire to speaker, i hope you didnt just loop them thro the terminals and twist.

Gotenks 07-24-2009 09:20 PM

The speakers I bought have a screw terminal that works similar to when you wire your amp.

stretch89 07-27-2009 04:46 AM

u forgot to ADD the baffels for front speakers since water leaks in the doors

wilson79 08-01-2009 11:34 PM

Good how to.

craigs06ls 01-29-2013 12:15 PM

question?????... i was looking in book at walmart and it said front speakers are 5 1/4....and thats what i bought.....but you have 6.5 is that right..and another probably dumb question....but does the stock radio have jacks for subs i have a 06 ls

craigs06ls 01-29-2013 11:55 PM

anyone??? help plz

iToastie 01-29-2013 11:59 PM

Take the door panel off and look at the speaker if you've already bought it. If it's smaller, you got the wrong one.

craigs06ls 01-30-2013 09:28 AM

lol im trying to avoid taking it apart if its not the right one.....since i work 7 days a week lol....

phatnackySS 01-30-2013 05:17 PM

it takes maybe 10 mins to pull the door panel off you could do it on your lunch break.

rcarr0327 02-04-2013 08:34 PM

i thought they were all 6.5 in or just go on any car audio website and use the fitment tool.

brentp 02-13-2013 01:21 PM

Stock stereo does not have the correct connections for an amp you can buy a kit from crutch field that you tap into your speaker wires and provides you with the hookups also to wire your remote if you put an amp in run the control wire to the power window fuse

cosmo18603 01-31-2016 09:55 PM

Easy way

First take the 2 screws out of the handle cup then unclog the side and bottom of the skin locate the 7my bolt and take it out undo 4screws from the bracket to change out speaker put back in and damp skin back in place replace cup screws cap and done PS scrape the little bit of hang on wire clip and 85 or higher wire harness will work perfectly
