How to: Decals on brake calipers

Found these on ebay and thought they would look cool, and well i think they do so heres how to do it. They were like ten bucks for a set, and they send you more than enough so in case you mess up (i did twice) you have extras. Patience is the key to doing this. Also, make sure your calipers are clean! I did this the day after i painted them so i knew they had to dirt on them.

First take off the wheel.

Take your decal and position it to where you want it to go.

Peel off the back layer slowly. The decal itself is in between two layers, the back is the protective layer and the front is the transfer tape. Seperate the back layer from the decal and the transfer tape.

**ONCE ITS ON ITS ON, DONT TRY TO MOVE IT, IF YOU MESS UP JUST PEEL EVERYTHING OFF AND START OVER WITH A NEW ONE**

Take your drivers license or another card and use it to flatten the decal and transfer tape completely.

Peel off the transfer tape slowly.

And voila your done, now do the same for the "SS" logo.

I need a floor jack like you have. I'm tired of having to turn and turn to get that damn jack in our trunk's to work.

Great write-up! How about a shot with your wheel on?

CJ BadBlackSS 05-29-2007 05:44 PM

I'm gonna go with they will melt. lol.

CinciSS07 05-30-2007 12:59 AM

they are supposedly made to withstand heat. ive had them on for a few days and driven them pretty hard, they seem ok for now at least, we'll see how they turn out in a few weeks, they were only ten bucks so its no big deal if they come off or whatever. i want a pic of me on the highway driving and then have someone take a picture so you can see them through the wheels!

CobaltSSChick 05-30-2007 01:09 AM

looks good...hope they don't melt

cblt12 05-30-2007 01:17 AM

ive had pretty much the same thing, just different lettering, for a few months now and it is holding strong!

:wtf:

Why not just order some of Johnny B's Cobaltss.net decals and remove the .net?
Costs you two buck apeice, you can do all four for $8

averagewhiteboy 05-31-2007 10:12 AM

How did you mess up on that? Twice? haha. It's a decal.

mcphatty 05-31-2007 01:18 PM

if you wanted a more permanent solution, you could probably paint the caliper white (or whatever color you wanted the letters to be). put the decal on then repaint with a different color. that way when you peel off the stickers the letters will still be there and painted on, too.

I own a Saturn RL. I just ordered my caliper paint kit and the "high temp" decals for the calipers. Did anyone actually use a high-temp clear coat on them? I'm wondering if i can spray the clear on with just the rim removed, without having to remove the caliper.

BlackSSMagic06 07-20-2007 05:17 PM

good job....looks great

Yeah, I used high temp. clear coat on mine. Wanted to make sure they didn't peel off after a while. Just cover up the hub/disc w/ a bag or something, and tape off anything else you don't want the clear on, and you'll be fine. Here's some pics:

I have the same ones, and have had them on for months. I didn't use a clear coat or anything and they have stayed in perfect condition.:twothumbs
