How To Install An Armrset

1)make sure you have the following: 1-armrest storage compartment, 2-black 10mm screws, 4-grey 10mm screws, 1-part to attach the armrest piece to the body, 1-rear cup holder piece.

The armrest will fit into the green circled area, facing the frontward to the car.

2)Start by lifting off the rear cupholders, and the E-Brake pieces.

*Note the instructions that I got required you to take apart the whole center console, and since I'm lazy I only took those 2 pieces off. To possibly make easier take off the rest of the console. :)

3)Put the part to attach the armrest to the body into the required place, and screw in the 4 grey screws into the circled yellow areas.

4)"Snap" the armrest into place into the circled green areas, and screw in the 2 black screws into the circled red areas.

5)Begin putting your console back together, and replace the old rear cup holder with your new cup holders and what do you have? A Cobalt SS with an armrest and someones hairy ass legs in the shot.

I still dont understand why GM didnt install this part in SS. It doesn't interfer with shifting at all. But it sure is nice having it.

Dew1us Apr 25, 2005 08:13 AM

so thats what the arm rest looks like. It comes standard in the LS.

Vendian Apr 25, 2005 02:17 PM

Now that I've seen it can be done it will be one of the first things that I do to the car.

dcshoes23 Apr 25, 2005 03:23 PM

good job both with the installation and the well illistrated guide

Eddie Apr 25, 2005 03:36 PM

can you get a pic w/ the ebrake up and the armrest down, it looks like the arm rest will interfere w/ the e-brake.

johnkb8 Apr 25, 2005 04:42 PM

are you sure 100% about shifting, this armrest is fine there and shifting, yea ebrake too works fine with it there

yeah that

philco_3 Apr 25, 2005 06:25 PM

It does interfer with the e-brake a little bit, but you still can grab it and pull it down without putting the armrest up. Shifting, no problem cause its far away from the shifter.

Is it just an armrest or is there a storage compartment in it too?

Eddie Apr 26, 2005 01:41 PM

thats sweet, good find and good job on the install, chevy definatly messed up by not having a arm rest imo. that should be a dealer install option lmao.

RedCavyRS99 Apr 26, 2005 03:20 PM

Looks awesome! Most importantly, where did you get it and for how much?

Yeah, it's got a storage compartment too but they don't hold much...I've yet to find a CD binder that will fit in mine. I usually just keep my ID badge, a few CDs, some gum, and my XM channel list card in there.

Cool, just looking for somewhere to stash things , like sunglasses, etc........
That's the only thing that I really miss from my alero, the center console storage......

Eddie Apr 26, 2005 05:45 PM

i believe that pic is with it all the way up. now a days the new cars need minimal length to put the ebrake on. hopefully that sounded right. my friends is300 and another friends sentra needs lie not even 2" of length to have the brake on.

philco_3 Apr 26, 2005 05:49 PM

The pic under the installation pics is the e-brake most ofthe the way up.

From gmpartsdirect.com it said $75.00/$85.00? after shipping, but when I got it a shipping bill for it was only 71.00.

tiny Apr 26, 2005 08:24 PM

does the whole armrest go up?

GaRsNoW Apr 28, 2005 06:04 PM

Yeah its gay, we dont have one either. They said its because of the seats. They didnt want them to rub, but i'm working on getting an armrest for my car too.

philco_3 Apr 29, 2005 10:17 AM

Yes they go all the way up. I dont it rubs but I will have to a look later.

philco_3 May 1, 2005 10:51 AM

For all...Check which part number you need here Armrest Part Numbers . Now you can either pay $90.00 here or take that part number and go to www.gmpartsdirect.com/ and get it for less. From GM Parts Direct it took about 2-3 weeks for me to recieve the part, but I spent a total of $70.95 for it.

zinner May 6, 2005 12:39 AM

I just installed my arm rest. Not terribly hard, however I broke the stupid clip on the e brake handle and now it is kinda sloppy. I have to say I can see why they left the arm rest off. It's a bit better for the driver without it and you need to fold it up to put on the ebrake. However you gain some extra storage space so it's not all bad.

But my passenger said she would like one and well you know how that goes.

The lady gets what she wants. :-D

plyboy-illest May 8, 2005 01:21 AM

i dont get why they just did not put one into the Ss every car i evenr seen from high end cars to low end cars they all have an armrest...
but me my self dont really care for it i have one in my Audi A4 but u can lift it up, so i dont really use it but its ncie to have

2K2CamaroSS Jun 28, 2005 02:47 PM

Sweet! Thanx for the info on the armrest!! Anyone have part numbers handy? Want to do this right away, but they don't list the PN's anymore on cobalt accessorries
