2.4 LE5 Engine: How To: Make a nice CAI
How To: Make a nice CAI
basic GMPP short ram up to MAF sensor

stainless steel elbows and connectors from Summit Racing leading the short ram into a CAI down into the bumper

down through the air intake hole

down to the bottom of the bumper with a Fujita F5 filter

when my front bumper got backed into last year by a truck this little triangular hole was loose so i just removed it, which caused a lot more colder airflow

this all increased the airflow a good bit to the air filter and made it SUPER LOUD, as loud as my Megan 2.5 catback sometimes even louder....
pretty sick "custom" mod that gave me good gains, about 7whp"ish". i lost my tune and my car was slow because of it, then this setup was put together and it seemed like i got all of that power back, my track times and my Dashhawk times are more or less the same. and i STILL dont have a tune, but i cant wait to get one with this new intake, I might see decent gains better than my last tune.
This is my 1st how to so its kind of sloppy, I have another helpful one I'm about to post up shortly for the e-brake.

Technically you're filter needs to be submerged and you need to be laying on the throttle heavy to draw water into your engine...not going to be a problem unless it's a flood.
You guys both missed the point. I wasn't implying that his engine was going to explode. A wet filter is a dirty filter, meaning you are not going to get very good air flow through it. He was trying to say that with the splash guard off the car, the filter was getting more air. Not only is that not true, but in the rain, it will in fact get less.
Hey I have a 2007 SS/SC and I want to Replace or Clean my CAI.
What is the best option as far as time and $$$$. I don't have my own garage to work in (i live in an apt) but i could work something out if necessary.
I was curious if just replacing the filter would be easier than cleaning it. Thoughts????
Thanks!!

BULLETSSMOKE, what parts did you have to purchase in order to make this work?? (do you have the exact part numbers / or links to the exact parts on summitracing.com)
I removed my resonator this weekend, and am now hesitating between installing a pipe to collect cold air in front of my radiator up to the air box, or going your way for my CAI.

go there, you need one 45 degree elbow and one straight pipe, i got the 3 inch stainless steel ones. and then you will need an intake coupler for whatever size piping you get from http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...00+-166081+115 and then you just attach the air filter to the end of that

ok the first piece is the GMPP pipe from the short ram that you bought, the one with the MAF in it, then there are 2 elbows and it looks like both are 22 degrees. then there is 1 straight pipe after the 2nd elbow and then the air filter attaches to that. sorry for the confusion

you do have to still wrestle it a little bit to get it in the right spot, there are like 2 sweet spots that it likes lol.
Actually you gotta have 45 and 22 it makes more sense than two 22's. Two 22's is 44 degrees but 22 and 45 is 67 degrees hence more bend. I only have one 45 and i had a big struggle. So then you HAVE to have 45 and 22. If that made any sense at all.. lmao

lol, if you look at the pics I posted (pics and vids forum) It looks like stretched it or something lmao. I had to use the gmpp filter cause my other one was pushing the fender wall so far back the wheel would hit it on the slightest bump.

oh yeah. thats right. you guys know everything.
nvm. i guess my personal experience was just... wrong. must have imagine my car bucking and almost dying on the highway.
just ta letcha know you will be able to get away w/ this longer than someone w/ forced induction but you should know that the dirtier your maf gets the less air it reads and the more your car will lean out. and once your in open loop ***** gonna start getting bad
you must like cleaning your MAF sensor. cuz its gonna run like **** when that exposd filter starts sucking **** up.
