Interior: How To: Replace a turn signal switch
#26
I just replaced mine. My old one would not stay to the left and wouldn't auto turn off. With the new one it won't auto turn off. My new one is a gm part. Is something else broken or is the new part bad. It's not eve making the click sound to release it. At least with the old one I heard it click to try to release it

So I finally got around to replacing mine. The part with shipping was about $35 on Rock Auto.
Anyway, the instructions were good but I couldn't do it without removing the piece of dash trim with the fog light and dimmer switch to the left of the steering wheel.

For those who's switch still doesn't cancel, make sure the switch is fully pushed into the column and the two tabs (one on top and one on bottom) are lifted so that the tab is engaging the opening and holding it in place. I pushed a small screwdriver in there under the tab to lift it in place. Works great now.
Edit:
Sorry, I mixed up two threads. I was referring to fixing the switch that wouldn't cancel after the turn.

Can I ask how did you get it off? I'm having a hard time I pulled on it and it feels like I might break the plastic place. Please help! I really hate having my blinker stay on after I make a turn. So I'm trying to get this done today. Thanks in advance

Looked this up after my turn signal switch quit automatically shutting off after the turn was made. Bought a new switch from Crate Engine Depot and got it installed. Took me about 30 minutes total, 15 minutes were spent trying to get the dash trim piece off without breaking anything. The left side clip was a real bear to get off, finally got it to let go with flat edge screwdriver and a big tug. No damage. Once that trim piece was off the rest was pretty easy. A hat tip to the OP if he's still around.

We just did this job. Nice write-up! Thanks for this, made it fairly easy. Might want to put the bit about the trim (we used a butter knife) in the OP since that was confusing to us as well.

Good news, bad news...
Good news: Replacing the switch worked for me, the turn signals go off after I've rounded a corner. I did have to remove the dimmer trim - as one poster said, get a thin screwdriver under the top lip and pry out from the middle. You'll see the clips on either end, then you can work them loose with a flatblade.
Bad news: I've got an airbag icon, and a complaint that my airbag needs servicing! I've snugged down both plugs into the switch, and they've caught. Is there another switch somewhere that I've disturbed?
