How To: Traction Control Switch
EDIT 8/30/08 everyone look at post 24 before PMing me or posting.
Do this at your own risk, I am not responsible for u messing up ur car. Now there are 2 ways to do this, the other way, which involves putting a switch before the ABS fuse, will turn off T/C AND ABS. But i like my brakes ;) the first thing you want to do is take off this panel http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/6157/image086qf5.jpg Find the light blue wire going to the underside of the Ebrake and tap it. You can use wire taps or just solder it like i did. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/808/image090ek5.jpg Run that wire to an inline switch these are my switches http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/3451/image094on0.jpg attach an Alligator clip to hook up wire and the other end without the clip to the switch. http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/6959/image088yu4.jpg Look under your Ebrake, there is a copper strip, Attach the clip to the back of that. (If you can get the E brake out, solder the wire to this strip) http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/4016/image095yv0.jpg Turn on your car with the switch off and make sure your ebrake works as normal. Now test the switch. Thats All Folks :cssNET: |
This is e-brake override. The correct way to do this is simply shift into 1st or "L" depending on which year you have.
|
wow, totally forgot i made this thread, ya u can put it into L gear. just for convenience.
|
Why would you want to do this anyway????

i know its only one wire to the ebrake.....but do i need to cut it...and add my switch or just strip it and add my switch? and it looks like the other end coming of the switch just goes to the copper strip...is this correct?

ya tht copper strip is what is touched by ur ebrake to send the signal that ur ebrake is on. |
o ok the blue wire is the signal wire that im going to tap...and then route the red wire to a switch and return it to the cooper strip....correct?

Resurrected -- When you pull up your e-brake does your "TC" light up on the dash? When I lift my e-brake the "TC" light does not illuminate. Only when I shift into "L" does the "TC" light up.

ya i just replied in tht other thread. i guess its different with the 2.4 and 2.2s. i guess u would have to find a way to make sure ur ebrake turns ur T/C off... which it most likely does.

Good choice, but you shouldn't have mentioned that.....now all the manual dudes will be telling you you're an idiot for shifting:lol::lol::lol:
upshift isint going to do a damn thing to harm ur car. Downshifting MIGHT but our trannys are electronic anyway its not tht bad... i have the shift plus so i try and stay away from downshifting as i keep it on stg 2. |
well thanks now that im sober.....lol...it makes more sense....i dont know why i was tripping about one wire....thanks.....ill do this as soon as i can get my car running again

i dont use this mod anymore, people have been PMing about it and i have been answering the best i can, i dont want any of u to screw up ur car, this is a traction control OVERRIDE switch, and putting ur automatic into L is better for it and turns TC off. go ahead and do this if u want but when in L ur automatic will actually perform better. |
A little off subject -- when I shift into "I" -- like when I know I'm going to pass a slower car (just waiting for a safe opening) I find that my car performs less then when I just leave it in "D" and pass. It seems to accelerate slower with the shifter in "I" starting between 45 MPH to 65MPH. If I leave it in "D" the engine revs easier when starting to pass from 45MPH to 65MPH. Anybody else with the auto notice this?
