How To: Wire/Install Pioneer Avic-F900BT/F90BT/F700BT - 2008 Cobalt SS
Well seeing as though I couldnt find a how to on installing a Pioneer Avic In dash Navigation unit I decided to make one.
I havn't gotten the unit installed in the car yet But I will put up pictures of how the Wire Harness should be hooked up to the Unit etc.
Used:
Metra GMOS-LAN-04
PAC SWI-PS Steering Wheel Module
Pioneer Head Unit harnesses
Pioneer CD-IU230V Ipod Cable (Comes with the AVIC-F90BT only)(Sold seperately for the other models)
These are in no particular order. But they should be descrptive enough to follow
I will post the rest of the install with in the next week when I get to it. Hope these images help.

Holy cow. I'd been thinking about moving my F90BT over to the Cobalt, but now I don't know.
Is the GMOS-LAN-04 required even if you've ditched OnStar? I assume so... to integrate with the stock amp(s) and wheel button. Starting to look like I'll be pulling new wiring to the doors/deck to a spot in the trunk if I ever do anything. Its quite the situation there no matter which route you take.
Which dash kit are you using for your AVIC?
Why did car audio have to go and get so complex....

Now to install it.
Remove the Trim to get to the Stereo Bolts.
Remove the stereo and cut the plastic backing and remove the metal bracket.
I removed the Right A-Pillar and basically every bolt to the dash on the right side as well as the 2 bolts holding the airbag down to be able to lift the dash up enough to put the GPS reciever under the dash. you can mount this on the dash if you want. I just didnt want to see it.
You can sorta see where I managed to put my hand through and put the GPS reciever. There is a rather large Flat spot in the center of the dash just passed the vents towards the windshield. I pulled the double sided tape off the Magnetic GPS backing and reached in and stuck it down. Then i reached in and placed the GPS reciever onto this.
Since I have the PAC Steerign wheel module as well I had to run the Green wire from the PAC module to the Stock harness(refer to the PAC instructions to find the right wire. I simply Tap connected it to the correct wire. You also have to Tap connect another wire from the 2nd stock harness and run that to an ACC power source.
install the mounting ring to the unit.
Connect the RCA cables (front-Rear) to the Poioneer Front/rear RCA cable. Connect the Metra harness to the Stock harness. Connect the antenna into the unit. Plug the Pioneer harness to the Unit. make sure all the other wires are connected first. Such as the parking brake wire to Ground.
Tuck all the harnesses and wires into the opening.(lots of wires and large harnesses. may have to play with it a bit to get it in right. I managed to tuck the harnesses down behind the HVAC.
Then screw the deck into place.
reinstall the dash trim and any other bolts you took off the dash (Dont forget the Airbag Bolts.
Thats pretty much it. not difficult really. definately saves about $150 on an install

Thats a pretty clean install with the wiring. I just twisted the wires together and covered em wit electrical tape.
For the gps antenna, i think the easiest way to do it is to run the wire behind the glove box. You have to remove the cover that touches the door when you close it. You can run the wire up to the front of the dash, behind the rubber flap that touches the windshield. I like where i put mine cuz its directly opposite of the light sensor.

Just to the right of the stereo trim and the top dash. I lifted that up and placed the GPS antenna in the center of the dash underneath. there is a flat spot there to stick the magnet too.
Thanks I try to clean the wires as best I can to make it easier to figure out later as well.

I love it. and for the price and what it does... NICE.
I dont have any issue with the boot up time. I never had v1.0 mine came as v2.0 so I cant compare to the old version.
I was looking at the Alpine 505 but at $999 CDN and it didnt have built in GPS(cost another $450) It wasnt worth it.
and this unit is pretty easy to hack and change things.

I enjoy the usefullness of controlling all these songs by the actual system itself, not by fumbling around with an iPod when I'm driving.

Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks for the install notes! I def referenced them to some degree while installing my Kenwood DNX-6140. I have XM also, and put the XM-100V receiver in the glove box, with the actual antenna hidden where the trunk closes. I ended up putting the GPS antenna in between the passenger airbag and the windshield. The one note I would say is that you can just put it on the little magnetic pad, but it can still slide, and since I like to drive fast every now and again, I siliconed it onto the pad, and stuck the magnetic pad there under the dash. Also, I have the ipod, usb, etc, all going into the glove box, and finally, the microphone for the bluetooth is near my right knee when i drive, so you don't ever see it, but hands free calling when driving is great.

Don't have any pics (whatever, it looks the same anyway), but I moved the F900BT over to the Cobalt. I'm thinking about hunting down Pontiac G5 trim to black it out. Our cars look good with the AVIC's, but all black trim to match would be nice.

Nice install !!!!!
Few questions tho..... First where did everyone purchace there unit ? Looking for a cheap trusted site
Second how does the steering wheel remote work and it it worth messing with ? And third for the speed signal wire does that wire in with the new harness or do you have to locate this wire.. And last what is the reverse signal wire for...Back up camera, i dident see anything about that either.
I really dident want to get an aftermarket unit but i really like this 90bt ALOT !!!!

I have a question for those of you who have installed a Pioneer navigation system using the GMOS-LAN-04 and the PAC SWI-PS. I am planning to install a Pioneer Z100BT Navigation system into a 2009 Cobalt SS. Base on what I have read here and other web sites I believe I can make the following connections:
Is the above correct? That would mean that I do not have to find these connections anywhere els in the car.
One other question. Where do you connect the remote wire from the PAC SWI-PS? Is the connection wire available on the radio harness?
Thanks for your help.
- Reverse wire from the Z100BT harness to the Green/Purple wire of the GMOS-LAN-04
- Illumination wire from the Z100BT harness to the Orange wire of the GMOS-LAN-04
- VSS wire from the Z100BT harness to the Blue/Pink wire of the GMOS-LAN-04
- Parking Brake wire from the Z100BT harness to the Green wire of the GMOS-LAN-04
Is the above correct? That would mean that I do not have to find these connections anywhere els in the car.
One other question. Where do you connect the remote wire from the PAC SWI-PS? Is the connection wire available on the radio harness?
