ya, i even left mine on the car, put electrical tape below where i wanted to cut, dremeled it off, then put a cap that has a slightly smaller hole than the antenna on(that way it stays on tight w/o glue or anything).

Still have the exact same radio reception.

That might work in TX but in NY and RI with a shortened antenna (about 12") I saw a significant drop off in reception.

sad thing is my mom buys antennas for GM, for all cars/trucks. After i cut it, shes like "you need length for reception." I was like, i can still hear it just fine. i'm at about 13in. Custom JB weld tip

FREEEEEEEE

14" - Used Vice Grips as my bolt cutters (RAWR for man hands) and the tip from a really nice Ball point pen and some Plastic Epoxy Resin I bought for my bowtie =) Ate the base of the attenna up though because mine is just spinning (even inside the truck) so I'm going to have to probably wrap it in vinyl (not spraying black paint anywhere near my white balt...

Will this work with like bolt cutters as well?? Problem is I can't take my antenna off to saw It because the base inside the trunk is broken. So i wqnt to just cut it with bolt cutters and apply the vacuum cap but i dont want to mess up the wire inside the antenna either... any info appreciated

or will my radio just say "screw you You have a case full of cd's for a reason"

I cut the entire mast off of mine, left just the base. I had slightly worse reception than stock, but not enough to worry about.

Depends on how far away you are from a radio station.

well i live in grreater cincinnati and i get stations all the way up to to dayton area. but mainly listen to stations around here. but we do have ridiculously hilly terrain around here so i dont know if that'll play factor. if it doesnt work out i guess i could just drop in a cheap new one

Or clip it incrementally until you either the radio reception bothers you or you're happy with the length.

Where did you buy this? This is the exact look I want, but haven't been able to find! All I can find on eBay is that carbon fiber junk. No thanks. I want solid black and sort of fat.

I just did this mod on my car and you would not believe the amount of things I pointed at with the discarded end of the antenna .. I felt like a teacher.
