O2 Sensor Replacement Bank 1
This was a hard install. The difficulty was getting enough space to sqeeze my hands in there to get at the O2 sensor.
Required Parts: New O2 Sensor http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/976...0720200458.jpg O2 scoket, an 5/8 extension and 5/8 ratchet http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/2...0720210757.jpg Penetrating Oil Location of the O2 is key. I would recommend that you let the engine cool down and start. There is always some guy that says fuck it. Well, dont. http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/216...0720200330.jpg It is easiest if you squeeze your arm between the fuse box and the coolant line. This is the place with the most room. Follow the O2 sensor wire to the unit to get a better feel on it for location. http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/34/...0720201826.jpg I would also take the clip off the O2 sensor because once you start to spin it, the cord will get tangled. http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/4...0720200958.jpg The yellow tab comes out with ease and the remaining black tab push down and the harness will unclip. Spray some penetration oil on the O2 it will come out quick. I stuck the O2 socket on the sensor. I stuck the extension on the socket. I put the ratchet into the extension. You will understand once you stick your hand down there. It needs to be done in peices to ease the pain. Once on the O2, is out. The new one gets to go in. Take a towel and wipe up the oil and stick the head of the O2 down there. I took the cap off once down there and let it fall to the floor. Dont clip in the harness until your finished screwing it in. This will allow more movement freedom and no twisted wires. Once the O2 is in, do the three part tool again. This will get it tightened down. Clip in the harness and dont forget the yellow peice. All done. |
Good timing on the write-up! I am replacing my O2 sensor this weekend.
Seems like a real PITA! |
It is.
good write up. i had a cel for bank one o2 sensor but when i replaced it, the light was/is still on. suggestions?
Battery disconnect for 30 minutes and you should clear that code.
i did. and it did clear for a while. first time i got on the hwy after that the cel came back on. 3 codes this time, all bank one sensor. the sensor isnt even a week old yet
What are the codes?
idk specifically. had it checked at autozone since i was only like a min away. the guy said i hade 3 codes, all for the first o2 sensor.
I changed mine a few months ago and it wasn't hard at all. The key thing is to make sure the car has cooled down lol.
If it wasn't the P0130 code then it might have to do with something like the PCM not reading correctly. I have only read that the P0130 code is really the only one that I would change out the sensor for.
Got a header? Downpipe? If so, check that shit for leaks. A tiny bit of air can do lots of damage. |
I just wanted to do a follow up that it was easier than I thought to do this. Without this write-up, I'm certain I would have struggled with inefficient ways of going about removing the old O2 sensor.
I was able to switch it out in a matter of minutes. Thanks again for the write-up!!! |
WHERE WERE YOU 2 MONTHS ago lol is this the 2nd sensor?
This is sensor 1 in the upper pipe near turbo. The second one is under the car. That one is really easy.
That is a 3/8s extension and a 3/8s ratchet not 5/8s
Great write up! Really glad I found this!
