It might be a problem with your computer in the car. If it doesnt work bring it back to the dealership and im sure they will help you out.
Has anyone else had this problem?? Perhaps 116Fantic if you disclose where in the US you are that someone from the site might be in your area to take a look at it. I would but the people at the border dont like me LOL --- just kidding

If your DIC won't reset holding the button, then just put the Key on with the engine off, and stomp on the accelerator 3 times in 5 seconds. that'll reset it too. as for a filter, I just use the ones from the dealership..if it fudges anything up, They can't say I was using a cheapo no-name filter.

at the same time some of the detergents that help clean your engine break down 3 months or 3,000 miles. Oil with prolonged life have cleaning agents that last longer
and everyone goes "it looks prettty on the dipstick"

I just did my first oil change at 6300 miles. I know, I know its bad to wait so long but I absolutley had no time. Anyways got around to it and did it myself in about an hour. I would say the hardest thing was actually lifting the filter out of place because it kept slippin off my finger tips and falling back into place. Took me 20 minutes. The oil was really black but it was all there. In my STi, I did the first oil change, in went 4.5 quarts... out went 2 quarts. I was like "holyshit!!!" Anyways good thing to know these cars dont burn there oil. Reseting the DIC oil life gauge took me about 10 mintues because I also turned on the auto lock, lock/unlock horn, etc... I ended up putting a PureOne filter from walmart for 5 bucks and getting the Mobile1 w/supersyn tech... for 4.99 (on sale) from target. Since I had all the tools this only costed me about a 45 dollar oil change.
And I got to take off some badges too.
BTW, The oil was changed the first time at 11%, I did the oil change about 3 weeks ago and its at 98%.

just some FYI about oil...
Amsoil>Mobil1>Royal Purple
dont wast your money on that purple crap.... here is some proof...
the study is on motorcycle oil, but im sure its pretty close to car oil per manufacturer...

oh, and it is good to remove the oil filler cap first, this way the oil drains faster.

Of course u want to change the oil filter when u change the oil..... it would be retarded if u didnt. Some people with the higher mileage oil actually change their filter after 3,000miles and keep the same oil.

the oil meter goes down quick after the first bc new cars usually require 5000 miles b4 the first oil change and after that every 3000 miles or 3 months but thats normal driving if u beat the **** out of your car then every 2000-2500 miles or 2 months ull need an oil change plus if your car is supercharged it uses more oil and will deterierate it more bc or excesive heat

Ok for everyone talking about the oil filters. Honestly go find the cheapest price. They are all made by the same company and all have the same specs for our cars, just different boxing and stamped markings for different companies. I might be wrong, but what from what research I did all that I found are the same. For other oil filters that is different. (Just so everyone knows I am not talking about all oil filters) Also I worked for Lucas Oil Products I run oil changes on a 2006 Avalanche at 10,000 mile intervals using lucas oil full synthetic 5w30 with 20% mixture of syn stabilizer. Nothing to brag about just shows how well there oil products are. " I left the company because they purchased a football dome and downsized personnel" (FYI)
I have sent in samples to the Lucas lab with a 1998 grand prix gtp highly modded that has a big lobing cam (gets blow by idling) with 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 then again at 18,000 miles on the same oil and the test finally started showing the oil needed to be changed at 18,000. But, I did change filter and topped off with about 1 quart at every interval.
I don't get my free oil anymore, but I am going to run mobil 1 full synthetic with lucas synthetic stabilizer in my cobalt because the lucas oil is hard to find in stores still and is $7-8 quart. Prolly change 5,000 miles the first time to see how it is. I am only at 985 miles on my car right now.

super helpful post... but man what a pain it was to get the damn filter in and out of that little space... saved myself 50+ bucks by doing it myself though... and it took exactly 6 quarts...

Thanks for the great write up. I don't mean to jump your tread, I just have a quick question. I'm going to change my oil instead of the dealership this round. I was going to run Royal Purple 5W-30. What is this buzz on this? Thanks
BUMP FOR ANSWERING MY OWN QUESTION!!! DUH!!!!!!!!!!!
