nope....but what I do is keep a record of all the maintenance I do including date and mileage and receipts...but it's just overkill on my part, in case I sell the car at some point down the road I can show how well it's maintained

anyone know how many miles you can go with mobil 1. I have gone 5 thousand miles and i show 24% on my computer and wondering if i should do one or wait until the percentage goes down a little more.

I bet it is still black . I would change it. It is supposed to be every 5,000.

fixed

an easy way to tell is to check the basestock group, anything short of pure PAO/ester (group IV+) is not a true synthetic

I'm going to post this for the millionth time and probably get flamed for it, but, your precious Mobil 1 isn't a true synthetic anymore. Its a synthetic blend of group III (highly refined mineral oil) with a small amount of group IV (pure synthetic)

So what is mobil 1 out everywhere as i went to 3 walmarts today and napa an they were all out of state for mobil 1 as they said mobil 1 is behind because of them being shutdown over the summer. So i had no choice but to go with castro sythenic and napa gold filter. What do you guys think of castro??? My oil change is done and another easy oil change. I see the price went up to for mobil 1 at walmart from $23 to $26.50 now.

Syntec 0w-30 European is the only really good Castrol, I ran the domestic stuff a few times and never had any problems

you can only get it at Auto Zone

Filter list

Here is a culmination of research I've done on filter brand part numbers and info

- AC Delco: PF457G (PF458G Includes replacement cap and O-ring) (Revised with more cap teeth from old PF456G) (Hengst rebrand?)
- AutoX: PE-036
- Beck/Arnley: 041-0810
- Bosch: 72215
- CarQuest: 84082 (WIX rabrand?) (Comes with O-ring for the cap) (Nearly identicle design to Hengst)
- Fram: CH9018 (and extra guard version)
- FULL: (Hengst rebrand?)
- GM: 90537280, 9194746, 21018801, 22685727, 93171212 (Saturn 22685725)
- Hastings: LF548 / HALF548 (Odd zig-zag filter element pattern?)
- Hengst: E630H
- K&N: HP-7000
- Knecht/Mahle: OX258DOEKO
- Mann and Hummel: Hu69/1
- NAPA Gold: 7082 (WIX rebrand?)
- Purolator: PureONE PL15436 (2 pack part#?) (PremiumPLUS: L15436)
- STP: 9018R
- SuperTech: ST9018 (nearly identicle design to Fram)
- WIX: 57082

It appears the Hengst is the real OE part. I have found Pics on other forums where the AC Delco filter is actually a Hengst E630H02 (labeled on the filter).

Amsoil doesn't appear to make one yet so they refer to the WIX filter.

Hope this might help. Let me know if you see anything I might have mixed up.

Just changed my oil using your write-up. Thank you very much. I saved a bundle of money from it I'm sure. I'm pretty impressed with myself too although it was just an oil change. Thank you!

The LNF turbo charged Cobalt takes 5 1/2 quarts. Not 6 or 6.5. You definitely do not want to over fill your engine by 1 1/2 quarts!!!! You run the risk of over pressurizing the crankcase. Check online. I just changed mine and it checked it after 5 qts., it needed 1/2 qt. more to be full on the dipstick.. I even drove it around to fill the filter but it was it, it was full on the dipstick. Maybe the supercharged car requires more but not the turbo car. Be careful. I bought 7 qts and was ready to pour in 6 and then check. Luckily I checked before doing that.

I do; I use a shallow drain pan and reach in from just ahead of the passenger's tire to get the drain plug.

If you're not lowered, sure. I've done it once. If you're lowered, kiss that idea goodbye.

When I was recently checking oil I got a small piece of tissue(about a 1/4 the size of a dime) in the oil check tube, will that get by the filter and should I get my oil changed for reassurance?

Hey everyone,

Today i picked up some 0w30 mobil 1 at walmart for $26.00. Has anyone used the 0w30 yet. It shows better fuel mileage than the 5w30.

Syntec 5w30 oil sucks. Since they didnt have mobil 1 last time i had to get this and hate it. Now im back to mobil 1 and im sure my car will run better.

Josh

Does anyone have pics of the oil passageways in the filter housing on the engine? I am curious how the oil flows. The o-ring on the base of the filter seems to do nothing, but I haven't looked at the housing yet.
