I have a 5spd without a reverse lock, would I need to do something special for the booth to fit with the new knob?

I want the same momo as you (2nd one) but in black leather.

Then it should work the Knobs are universal, But I haven't seen the G5 shifter! Momo sells the airleather knob in black & Brushed aluminum!

This is a great thread. I'm going to do this to my new '07 Cobalt SS/SC next week. I just have a few questions before I do:

The reverse lock out isn't attached at all anymore to the knob, but instead to the top of the boot. I understand this.

when I cut the reverse lock out, if you are looking at it when not inverted, you will cut the plastic right BELOW the finger hold, correct? so it's just thin now and stops before getting fat again?

if so, what do you grab on to and is it a comfortable reach?

also, what guides it now, does it just automatically fall back into place once you're in gear or do you have to jiggle it a little to get it back down where it belongs?

Also, I am having trouble seeing the black zip tie in the pictures, the one that holds the boot to the reverse lock. I'm guessing instead of it being flush with the boot, it's a little below and that's why the boot looks a little inverted? not that this looks bad, because it doesn't - I just want to make sure I'm not going to screw anything up! (another way to ask this question is do i zip tie the leather from the boot directly over (a little below) where I zip tie (red) the leather from the knob to the top of the now cut reverse lock out?)

The Black 1 is above the red 1, You will see when you cut the 1 that is there now!
The reach can be adjusted to comfort just have to toy with it a little while.

Yes

All the guides under the boot still work like the factory, Because you are not Moding it just cutting off the top!

try tapping it from the bottom with a Hammer & then Pull, I almost gave up then I got it! It will come off, Just remember it will not twist! The shaft is ridged so it doesn't allow for the shifter knob to twist on the shaft! It pulls striaght off

So here's my question I found the shifter I want and I really appreciate the how to but in order to order my knob I need to know the size of the thread so they can drill it are you able to take urs off and measure? heres the link to the one I want to get so as you can see by the print they drill the hole there so u need to be exact (i'd take mine off but well I dont want to be driving around w/o a shifter for a while, while this is on order :P)

It is Not threaded & any Universal Knob should fit! I Bought 2 different Momo Knobs & They both Fit! That Knod the show is for threaded Shafts it wont work unless you glue it on & Thats No Good!

Yeah did some digging and found this other how to and seems that if i combine your how to for the reverse lock out and this one it should in theory still work... I think... :-S

I know I'm kind of bringing back an old thread but I'm doing it for a friend. He bought new shifter knob and just wants to replace it without doing anything else. So does he just have to pop the cap off and switch the two or is there other things that need done?
