remove timing cover
 

ive been searching around the how-to's and cant find anything on how to remove the timing cover. does anyone have a decent descriptive explanation of all the steps?

i wish. i've been looking everywhere for replacing the timing set (i know there was one on here somewhere!) but to no avail

theres one but with no details and no pics, and its like 6 years old :lol:

ive done this a few times on my lap, idk if its the same. but for mine take off pass. engine mount, wheel and then belt tensioner itself. pretty straight forward

I bought the 3 volume set Service Manual published by General Motors.
There is an engine section that explains how to remove the timing cover (front engine
cover). It's fairly complex.
As I remember, the total cost is about $150.00.

its much easier than it looks.

support the engine with a jack and a board of wood (or some sort of cushion)

remove the upper engine mount (and everything else in the way like the intake, etc)

you also have to remove your passenger side tire.

remove the serpentine belt and tensioner

there should be about 9-13 10mm bolts holding it in.

remove the crank pulley

and the case should be able to be removed now.

if i had more time id go into further detail, but this is it in a nutshell.

youre going to get dirty too.

lol this was exactly what i told him pretty much when we spoke yestarday :twothumbs

i wasent sure if 10mm or 13mm bolts and how many there were

yea i forgot how many there was too. lol. its been a while since i did it.

It's not that hard. Just time comsuming if you aren't farmiliar. Also helps to have air tools and more than a basic socket set, swivel sockets Ftw
