Sad state the western world is going through right now. We are about to the point were a person in peril will have to sign a consent waiver before anyone moves forward with rescue efforts.

Luckily here in tn we have a really good "Good Samaritan" law that you can actually depend on but I would be afraid to try and help anywhere else.

Yeah the good samaritan law will protect you as long as you follow your training to the letter. The company that provided my CPR training also includes legal help incase I get a lawsuit

The very first thing before helping the person is "I'm a first aider, can I help you?". If they say 'yes', this waives any chance of a lawsuit apart from straight up asshattery. Of course it always helps to get it all on video; if they sue you for whatever, you can counter-sue for their douchebaggery AND you have proof.

Here in tn it covers you if you act out of "good faith" so if say you don't have a actual certification and something goes wrong your still protected on the condition you don't claim to be medical personnel. Its not necessarily limited to cpr either, say someone is in a car wreck, vehicle is on fire, you (acting out of good faith) pull the person from the car and in the act of getting them out they get hurt in some way (example, they had a broken neck and end up paralyzed). Your protected from claims that you caused a injury. Similar to say someone is having a heart attack and needs a dfib used, say they end up dying while your trying to use it. You will be protected from any charges the family may file. The only thing it does not protect is if they were injured out of gross negligence. Example being they had a wreck and you pulled them from the vehicle and injured them when there was no reason to pull them from the vehicle.

This is exactly how it works. Even if they are a do not resuscitate you are shielded legally, as you're not a medical professional. At least from what I can remember in my training they said you should look to see if they have a bracelet for DNR but that is not a requirement.
