I don't remember where I first mentioned it but we were talking about Ecotec swapped Miatas and I mentioned on that autocrosses same locations as me. At first it was just an N/A 2.4 build but then he threw a turbo on it. Stock engine. Here is his youtube channel if you wanna check it out. Thing rips around the course and he usually gets fast time of the day. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJq...v2mBeKaR4H9QfA

If it makes sense financially I might copy that for my Exocet build in the future. However, by then, decent 2.4's might be hard to come by (it'll be a few more years before I'm ready for that).

Have you weighed options between Exocet and DF Goblin? There is also an Exocet that ran at same event as this miata with an LS in it. Thing is a rocket.

I already own a Miata for the purpose, and the Exocet is much better priced and I've seen better reviews regarding the build quality than the Goblin. Part of the price is likely that the Miata rollerskate is better-suited for the application. I'd love to put an LS in it, but the price may be prohibitive. If I can get similar power from a smaller boosted engine, super-win cuz I'll also keep the weight down. The light car would also care less about turbo lag (or could look at supercharger). The drivetrain is a big factor though, and there are kits readily available for the LS swap. A different swap may require more fabrication.

Someone used a Honda V6 recently that looks intriguing. Those can be had pretty cheap.

Is the Exocet the same deal as the Goblin you just us a Miata donor instead of Cobalt? Makes since if you already have a Miata and I think it would be cool. Me personally I just thought since I have a Cobalt the Goblin makes since because it makes use of nearly everything.

Pretty much. The Exocet uses the entire subframe and suspension of the Miata (referred to as the rollerskate), so it's basically just a drop-on frame. Kits start around $6500. Once you start swapping the carryover becomes less, but you can still use the front and rear subframes and entire front end.

For the Goblin, however, it is mid-rear so there's not as much carry-over from the donor suspension-wise. You'd have to obtain at least new front end somewhere (your steering knuckles and hubs are used in the rear to mate with the axles). IIRC the kits start around $10k.

The Miata is a great start because it doesn't really need to be MR. It comes balanced really close to 50-50. When you put a monster V8 up front it starts to shift, but still very manageable.

EDIT: just saw the Goblin kit starts at $6800. So similarly-priced. In that regard, you get quite a bit more for a similar price with the Goblin.

Haven't even thought about taking off the summer tires yet. Warmer than usual around here. I still have to make it to the strip one more time.
