Car hit :(

Some 100 year old guy hit my car and took off... Cops trying to find him have his name and stuff.... Security camera etc...

I'm not paying for this I'm tired of paying for other people hitting my car/trucks

Brutal. As someone who has been in your spot before I understand the frustration.

Damage doesn't look to bad, I wonder how it looks under the bumper tho. Still sucks that some people do that kind of stuff and dont care and leave no respect for others belongings

Doesn't the hit and run automatically make them at fault? Why would you pay for the repairs?

Since apparently you live in a crappy area, looks like you need better insurance

i had full coverage on both cars. part of my frustration is with insurance companies.

on the duramax, it was a real hit and run. and it was in the middle of the woods while i was towing my toy hauler. the guy just drove off and its not like i can just turn around and chase him or do anything.

the cops would not write a letter saying it was not my fault, and the insurance company would not pay for it as me being not at fault if i didnt have a letter from the cops saying i wasn't at fault... so basically i got screwed and had to pay for it all out of pocket or else pay higher premiums forever.

with the camaro, i called the insurance company to see what my deductible was to see if it was worth even using insurance to fix it, which it wasn't... BUT just the fact that i called and said what happened they INCREASED MY RATES for someone else hitting my car. so i got double screwed.

all this happened in different states...

insurance companies are a complete scam, government mandated anything turns it into a scam they can just do and charge whatever they want because they know you have to have it.

im not trying to bust this old guys *****, but if he can't tell he ran the side of his car against another car, then he probably shouldn't be driving. i dont know if it was a hit an run because i dont know if he knew he hit my car.

the cops are being of minimal help, they know who it is and are supposed to contact him and get his insurance info and have him call me and give me his info. which hasn't happened. i will have to call the cop today.

the only other option i have is to press charges for hit and run against some super old guy. i said i didnt want to do that i just want his insurance to pay for it. if the guy plays hard ball and ignores it i am seriously thinking about doing the charges, i'm sick and tired of paying for other peoples bullshit, but i also don't want to be a douche and press charges against some 100 year old guy.

i guess i could take him to small claims court, which might be a better option then pressing charges. but then i'd probably be taking his SS money or some bullshit. he needs to do the right thing and let his insurance company pay for it.

It sounds like you need to invest in good dash cams on each side of the car.

Depending in how his or your insurance handles the situation, the citation might be required and small claims may not be an option. I'd get legal advice before you try to do something "nice." That's how a lot of "I got screwed" stories start.

Also, this might be the wake up call the guy needs to know that he really shouldn't be driving. Old people are stubborn, and if you're too nice he probably won't get it.

as predicted i'm totally fucked, cops can't make out license plate from security camera, the hearing aid place the guy went into can't give out his information because of hipaa.

can't get info from hearing aid place without a warrant, can't get a warrant or give out a ticket without his information.

my only option is to try and find him myself which i could clearly id his car if i see him driving around. fairly small town...

tired of this bullshit.

We ran into this with my wife's car a bit ago. Old guy hit her and then just went around and drove off like nothing happened. My wife followed him for a mile trying to get him to stop and he just ignored her. Unlucky for him this was on base and the MP's tracked him down. His excuse was that he looked at the car and didnt see any damage so he kept going.
