Debating selling my 09tc in the spring

Long thread- I have loved my car as long as I have had it. It's been a garage queen I believe since new (I'm the 2nd owner purchased at 20k miles) and I have never driven it in the winter or on scheduled rain days. My issue is I'm wanting to get a 2.0 awd ats next yr, which I will be doing fbo's to and also maybe a R turbo. I don't really need 2 hp cars (nova will also be sold) and I have very little free time anymore. I'm looking to simplify my life since my sons passing 1.5yrs ago and want to do more things verses maintain cars.
I can keep the car and if I do I will daily it, but I hate too because it's in such good shape. Also it's not just the money of selling the car that I would gain due to the planned build of the factory trans into a 4.05 setup made by Jason, along with a built motor down the road cause I can't leave well enough alone.
So not only would I make money off of selling it, but I could also potentially save a lot down the road by not upgrading it further. I've always had issues with not getting traction and I'm guessing once I can have a awd 2.0 the cobalt won't be as much fun due to always having to contend with traction. I can part the car out because I kept most all of my factory parts and just have the gms1 program reloaded on it. I still have fun in the car, it runs great and handles great, but I don't know how much I will love it with a car with awd, a nice interior, and about the same power. Plus I would love for someone to take good care of it, verses me potentially exposing it to weather daily. It will have 45k miles on it.
Thoughts?

Do you think the Nova+Cobalt would be even money with an ats?

If you get an ats I doubt you'd miss the Cobalt. The Nova on the other hand, I wouldn't want to regret selling. I think that, and your financial situation, is the wild card here.

Financially I'm good, and don't have to sell anything, but it would be nice to have some garage space. I have owned the nova for 23 yrs. I ran it pretty hard years ago and then tore it down to fix it up. Trouble is why I love old muscle cars, I'm not in my 20's anymore like I was when I bought it. It is heavily modified and as much as I hate to admit it I have really grown fond of driving something reliable and somewhat comfy. The nova is not that with the roll cage, solid motor mounts, manual steering, etc.
If I sell the cobalt it would basically be a fund I could buy a decent 2wd truck with for down the road, for use in home projects and towing. Since I got the cobalt I haven't touched the nova due to time. I'm guessing the same will be true with the cobalt if I get the ats. And with a ton of good parts on the cobalt it would be better if I just pulled them over the winter and put it back to stock, including throwing the original 3.82 trans with 36k miles in and selling the 4.45 trans.
I'm torn currently. With the cobalt was rwd or awd, would make it more appealing to keep and mod.

I think the ATS is a great platform and a good upgrade. Hope you still stick around the forum or at least update with teasers from time to time.

I definitely understand you man I've thought about the same thing several times but I just come around driving the car everyday as its s much fun! Also my car is already heavily modified and wont make any financial sense to me. Awd is awesome but sounds like you will still mod the car so reliability could always go down

You are more modified than I and since you have that 6spd and turbo on already it wouldn't be near as easy for you. That's kind of why I'm second guessing all this now. I've had a zfr setting in the garage almost a year....

Its nice not worrying about spinning with high power. but I regret selling my 08 as it made such a good DD. I wish I could have kept both. but I see your predicament since its essentially the same platform.

I vote sell. Come over to the AWD side. we have cookies

Honestly a turbo swap isn't that difficult to do and it transforms the car really nice. I do see where having fwd and spinning is fun but to me that's no really a thing I worry about as all I do is have fun by myself and push it when I want all I do I highway pulls when I'm alone in the car and in the street

Life has a way of changing our direction without warning. I can understand the allure of selling your Cobalt and wanting to move forward with an AWD car. As much as I enjoyed my over done DD '06 Cobalt I really love my RWD Genesis coup. I love the way the ass end squats down and goes sideways a bit when I really get into the pedal.
While I understand selling the Cobalt I can't say the same as for selling the Nova. Cages can be removed, real motor mounts can be installed and all of your reasons to sell the Nova can be countered. I see regret to follow once the Nova is sold and gone. A '63 Nova SS does not grow on trees and the good ones always go up in value. I wouldn't sell the Nova unless it was horribly disfigured while it was modified. Just my $.02 opinion.

Personally there is not many cars id give up my cobalt for but ats is one of those, id opt for a v though if its in budget. But the nova? I have to disagree getting rid of that. If it was me I'd take the grandson to work on it with him to make it more comfortable and fun. Be a great project for yall to bond over and a pass down for him imo. But it is your choice in the end. Hate to see ya leave us.

Yeah maybe you all are right on the Nova. My son used to work on it with me, would be kind of neat to finish it with his son. Nova has lots of great parts on it but I didn't want to spend the money on a high end paint job so I stopped working on it. Mini tubbed, strange Ford 9", tci trans and converter, ce frame rails, 8 pt roll bar, old school splayed 4 bolt 400sbc forged internals with alum heads and roller cam, fuel cell, tubular control arms, etc. I threw a lot of money at it and it was built by me, and Logan, when he was younger. After all unlike the cobalt it's really not depreciating I guess. I wouldn't go anywhere and more than likely the ats would be running ZZP parts so I can still talk about that. Gotta get the car first....

I don't think I've ever really seen pictures of your Nova. You should post some.

I understand the point about not wanting to "ruin" it by dailying it, but if you sell it, some kid is just going to crash it or put cheap mods on it anyway. Really its a lose lose.

Also, about the traction aspect, I have a 2014 Evo X and I still desperately want to finish my cobalt and drive it again. Even spinning, the cobalt is just so much more fun to drive. IMO, these cars are some of the last few truly raw cars to drive with no handicaps and no crazy safety gear. AWD is nice but I could never give up the car ive had since I started driving.

Someone on here (maybe snail or hawksoccer?) bought an ats awd 2.0 and pretty much immediately went back to a cobalt because the weight of the ATS coupled with the awd sucking up all the torque made it not that fun to drive, even with a manual trans.
