I prefer a blend of both, which you left off the poll. I prefer 500 hp+500tq

at what RPMs? Its very important to really see where the power is. if the 600hp engine has a perfectly flat torque curve, then hell, i'd probably go that route, but if it has **** low end torque and only peaks at 300 close to redline, then no thanks

likewise for the 300hp motor. If its redline is at 4.5kRPMs and thats where ita making those hp/tq numbers, then it looks pretty damn good to me. but if it doesnt even reach that 300hp until 7kRPMs, and peak torque is taken at like 2kRPMs (making it effectively useless due to traction issues), then i'd pass on that one too.

You need to remember, HP is a function of TQ. The more torque at X RPM, the more HP at X RPM...however, when engine specs are listed, they list peak torque at X RPM and peak power at Y RPM

ill give you a good example of some differences.
my lt1 over 300hp and over 300tq
the tq was there from idle to almost redline
the hp peaked at about 4500 and fell off around 5500

my ls1 made similar numbers
the tq was from about 2500 to 5000
the hp was from 4000 to 6000

the lt1 was way more fun to drive even though the ls1 was faster
i would take the torque over the hp any day, as long as it didnt effect the performance of the car compared to the other one.

now you also have to think of normal every day driving, you dont drive hp you drive tq so you should take tq over hp anyways

The LS1 makes more torque then the LT1 does. That myth has been squashed

I'm a nitrous guy...torque all the way. There is nothing like crusing around in 1st gear and damn near pulling a tire off the ground from a 20mph roll

look at diesel racers, they know torque delivers where it counts.

depends on a lot of things. If it makes peak torque right off idle, I'll go with the higher hp car. If it sloooowwwllly builds up to said torque i may go with the diesel

It depends on a lot of factors though. Gearing, weight, etc...

My "low-buck" 5.0 puts out over 600 if I flash the converter. It's not too hard to do with a decent v8 setup.

Any cam, long tube, bolt-on ls1 vehicle + nitrous has 600+ torque. There is probably a few thousand of them out there.

really that big of a difference isnt possable... a dyno actually converts the measurement of torque to find horsepower... horsepower is like rate over time and torque is power over time.. or something to that extent...

The numbers given are definiutely possible, since no RPMs are given....

torque is work, HP is work over time... horsepower is torque X rpm / 5252...

IE: 300tq at 2kRPMs is 115hp, and 300tq at 4kRPMs is 230hp
