The 6.8mm bullet has a better ballistic coefficient than the 123gr .311 bullet of the 7.62X39, which yields a flatter trajectory and better downrange performance/terminal ballistics at ranges in excess of 4-500 meters.
It is more accurate.

I don't know much about the 6.8mm, I'll have to look it up. Sounds interesting.

6.8 spc is an awesome round it serves more hunting applications than the .223 can. But, if SHTF then 6.8 may be hard to find.

That Ruger is pretty sweet looking as well, but they want $1,500 for just the upper.

sure do, its basically a knock of HK MR556.

the ruger is my next AR. Be prepared though, the piston makes it a bit more complicated cleaning wise, as it changes some things around, but it runs cleaner in general soooo....

they remind me of the sig sauer 556. I would love to have one of the rugers cause I am a bit of a ruger fanboy!

I would get 2 uppers one in .223 and one in 6.8 for bigger game.

No, I went and looked at it today and I just can't decide between the AR and AK with both them in my hands. The AR is on consignment and is for $725 (mint) but the AK is only $480 with case, extra clips, etc. Already has an Adjustable Stock.

Have both an AK and an AR its a pretty easy decision having put 1000's of rounds down range with both . The Ar is the Superior weapon in my book ...... now if i lived in a sandbox or ricepaddy my mindset might change but if it's going to be something you take care of and keep as the start of a collection , you cant go wrong with an AR . Another thing about the AR is it's a swiss army knife of a rifle ..... you can hang just about anything off it and have anything from a varmint rifle to a close quarter battle rifle .

The AK is an awesome rifle ..... It goes bang just about everytime you pull the loud button .... but out of the 5-6 different AK's i've shot none were really something I would bother hanging a scope on .... they are a center mass lead slinger .... where as an AR can be set up to knock down heart sized targets at 300 + meter's . Just my 2 cents.

Both are good rifles, it's a tough decision. There's a lot of pro's and con's for each but it has to come down to what matches best with what you want to do.

In my opinion: Target shooting = AK
Defensive = AR

I'd recommend finding a tactical carbine course though, if shooting defensively is part of your purchasing decision. Many will argue that you shouldn't use a carbine rifle to protect your home for a multitude of reasons, one being it's more cumbersome than a pistol can be. However, if you're trained to use a carbine in a closed environment it's just as effective, but this is my opinion.

Primary use would be home defense and just target shooting 50-150 ft.

He makes good videos, I've seen a few of them. I think the best way to find out which you like better would be to shoot them both, if you have friends that own both rifles.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone that own either and the shop doesn't have an indoor range. In your opinion why would you say the AR is a better defensive rifle?
