Stock Turbo Neon runs 10's @ 130mph

Saw some bullshit in the Css vs srt4 page that actually made me not want to be on that page anymore.

They claim there are two srt4 stock turbo (td04) running 10.9x's @ 129+mph. Im sorry but why did it take 12 years for someone to figure out how to do that? Why doesnt he share his build? Why do none of the videos actually show the engine bay?

I asked to to see the engine bay and they post a beat piece of **** neon hood shot that looks like a high school kid started modifying his car. Anyways, cant stand that page to begin with.. Thought id share and see if anyone on here has even a single brain cell dedicated to the belief of the srt4 community. And no he claims he does not run nitrous. 93 octane pump gas. 129 mph trap. 10 second neon.

no way. 129 mph trap means its running in the near 450+ whp. Impossible without nitrous on a td04.

I joined that page for 1 week and then left Shang is bad enough but that one is pitiful. I don't understand why 2 4 cyl cars want to go at it when we should be going after v6 and 8 cars to show what we can do. It's stupid.
We are both underdogs

It is possible and on a stock turbo they do make power on corn with the right mods. Theres a lot of odds and ends to them to up power on the stock turbo.

Whos to say hes not running a stock frame turbo and not a real stock turbo.

Also theres plenty of traction mods for those cars unlike these cars.

I'm still surprised no one has a made a commercial traction aid setup for cobalts. Some have made their own traction bars that they claim work very well. I hit ZZP up about it and they said their shop cars on coils hooked pretty well. Maybe it's because guys mostly want to roll race or autox verses drag race.
If you gutted a cobalt like an srt4 and could plant the power, a cobalt with 350whp would be quick. But trapping as high as that srt did is kind of hard to believe with a stock turbo. Sounds like it's basically a race car.

I don't think put platform has enough interest for making those kinda of times. Most people go straight for dyno numbers and roll racing...and people who are serious about 1/4 mile all move on to other platforms. There are still a few chipping away at the 1/4 mile but they are mainly silent... thinking about blue, infra, scythe and a few others.

I think a lot of guys get frustrated and decide not to keep going. It's not easy in a fwd car unless it's dedicated to it. There are a lot of guys who road race and auto x with cobalts because they handle well. You don't see a lot of neons doing that.
Still waiting to see what japeater does, and if Lnf wagon can get into the high 11's with his r since changing motors.
I plan on going bigger turbo over the winter and will still try and run some 1/4 runs.
If our cars didn't out handle the srt4's more may have gone drag racing more. All anyone really talks about is roll racing and Dyno whp.

Yea jars car will be a monster, I can't wait to see how that turns out. But lsj's don't really fit because they are turbo swapped usually or tvs. I think the sc cars have room to pull decent 1/4's because you could get the power to the ground more efficiently without spin....I'd like to see how tjolly's car with the 1900 does at the track.

To revisit this thread, my buddy with an srt-4 knows who this guy is and has talked to him. His name is Matthew Floyd, talks a lot of crap on srt4 vs cobalt ss on Facebook but he claims 370whp and my buddy says that's like big turbo upgrade power for an srt4 or maybe he has a built engine. Either way he thinks he's not telling the 100% truth.

Interesting. I wonder if he is running the stock frame for the turbo but has the r option in it. You could do that in a cobalt while still saying its a k04.
I also wonder how much it weighs. I think our trans ratios hurt us a lot. The quaffe 6 speed setup with the 3.00 and 1.93 1-2nd gear ratios would be killer compared to the 3.38 and 1.76 that gm stuck us with. I hate hate hate 1st gear in our cars and it's to big of a let off in 2nd.
Wish Lnf wagon would get one and see how durable it is. 4.45 trans 1st gear just sucks.

Sorry I'm a little late to this party but I'd like to clear this up.

That is my neon, and it is in fact the stock turbo and it's not a dedicated drag car. It's a completely stock engine except for arp head studs. It makes 359whp/461wtq on e85 with a 26psi spike falling to 18 around 6000rpm. Simple bolt ons, intake , exhaust, intercooler, injectors, and external wastegate manifold. The doors that were on it that day were nothing more than doors off a base model neon, painted black with lexan windows. It is 100% street legal and still gets driven to work or to take my kids to school or practice. There's no mystery parts or hidden secrets, just a good combination of modifications ,with a great tune, and some good driving. I have nothing to hide with this car nor do i have a reason to lie about anything that's done to it.

Man I would like to see the torque curve on that. That is some serious torque but with the HP numbers looks like good low to mid range torque then dies off around the top end kind of like you said.

Im sure the graph looks similar to a ***** out tune for a stock lnf. Peak torque as soon as the boost comes on and drops from there.

Floyd, very impressive. I'll have to look you up if I see you at PDR or Keystone or whatever it is lol. Nova, I hate my 1st gear also, reminds of trying to speed shift an old 4x4 with a granny gear. Hate it. I wonder how the F40 would lend itself to drag racing?

4.45 1st gear is exactly like an old granny gear and it's too much for a turbo car. Eventually when I ever get the efr on I will have lnfwagonss build me a 4.05. I'm not so sure he isn't building himself that quaffe 6spd setup now. Great ratios, even better than the f40. F40 is probably more durable though.
