Woodward Dream Cruise

Woodward Dream Cruise
This year I am going to be heading to the Dream Cruise for the first time, been wanting to go for years now. I was just looking to get some info about the cruise and hotels from the locals, since I am not all that familiar with the Detroit area. I grew up in SE Michigan, so I know that some areas of Detroit and Pontiac are shitholes. I am sure it has probaly gotten worse since the 20 years I have been away from the area.
A friend of mine and I are taking a truck and enclosed trailer with our cars to the Dream Cruise, and are trying to get hotel reservations ahead of time. What are some good and safe areas relatively close by to stay at, and ones where we won't walk outside to a missing truck and trailer the next day or have to around fully armed at all times?
Whats the best day to get up there prior to the cruise on Saturday? We don't plan on driving in the actual cruise, nothing exciting about traveling a mile every 2 hours, but rather cruising early in the morning and later in the night and hagning out in the lots during the day. Is the crowd at the cruise comprised of mostly old fogeys who are asswipes to ayone not driving an American made V8 vehicles?
Any of the locals have plans for a meetup place during the cruise? Maybe I can swing by and hang out

Look for hotels in the Rochester Hills/Troy area, close by and a nice area. The day of actually sucks, every day leading up to it is pretty fun. What will you be driving?

And yeah. Rochester/troy is the nicer areas around the cruise. or you could stay in down town royal oak but it will be pricey.

I was up there around cruisin from about 2PM to 4PM and then parked for awhile and walked around. I was up there til around 6:30 or so and saw a handful of balts. Thought I might have saw MP81 when I was walking back to my car and thought I saw eurobalt but dont think it was him unless he removed his vinyl. There were several stock sedans and coupes I seen along with a couple nicer SS models. One that I can remember was blue
