Hello

Hey everyone. Was looking for a new car to fool around with and ended up with a 2006 Cobalt SS. I got it for cheap and its in really nice shape. Been rustproofed and garage kept. Under 100k km.

I really wanted a 2008/9 because I wanted the turbo version instead. For what I paid for the SC one I figure I can switch it out for not too much money. It's going to be a winter project car as I just bought a new house that has a nice heated garage so can work comfortably all year round.

I have a few questions.

I will search the threads but maybe some of you that have been here longer can direct me to the better ones or help me out until I figure out navigating the site.

Is the transmission/drive shafts the same on both versions?

what would I need other than the obvious

Engine

Transmission(if different)

ECU

Wire harness

Turbo/downpipe/intercooler

If its more trouble than it's worth or if I have trouble sourcing the things I need I could always wait around for a clean turbo one for a good price and sell the SC one, however I highly doubt I'll find a body as clean as what I've got, especially living in Ontario where they salt the roads heavily all winter. Given the cars being almost 15 years old, finding a clean one is harder up here.

Any help, direction or links you can provide are greatly appreciated. Also your general opinion on doing it, if it's not worth the effort etc. You won't hurt my feelings lol.

Cheers

Derek

Transmission is the same (different final drive though; LSJ FD is more desirable though); you'd only really need to change the engine. With that said, it's totally not worth it as you'd essentially need to change all of the electronics in the car (PCM, BCM, and related wiring harnesses).

Just put a turbo on the one that you have. You can actually just use the LNF (08-10 turbo engine) turbo manifold and turbo on the LSJ (05-07 supercharged engine).

For the most part, a stock block LSJ is just as good as a stock block LNF. You could argue that it's better in some aspects, since you don't have to deal with direct injection. Either one can carry you well into the 400-500 whp range.
