Clutch replacement

Anyone have good experience with a local shop (south end) replacing the clutch? Cost? So far the 2 shops I've check out are about $900 with me bringing in the clutch

So far Performance Prep and Kent Performance. I'll try Tork.

I could do it myself, as the car is not my daily driver, but I just don't want to. I've been doing an engine swap on another car in the garage for well over a year. Got it apart and lost motivation, and I don't want the same to happen to the Cobalt.

Meaning I might just have to pay up.

I called Tork and the quoted a bit over $400 (under $500 anyway) So I placed an order for the KY clutch stage 3.

Your KY stage 3 is shipping today! Thanks for your order.

Under 500 labor to do a TC clutch and not even supplying the parts? Let us know how it turns out. If it turns out ok he might have a freakin bunch of them to do.

You haven't done any other cars then. Most you can get away without dropping the subframe. I did my tercel the first time in about 4 hours start to finish. I can't do that on a cobalt now even though I have it down to a science.

Not yet, I'm most likely going to schedule it for last week in May or 1st week in June.

sweeet! Ya, John (owner and mech at tork) is AWESOME

mr84monte 07-27-2013 12:56 AM

More than a year later and I'm finally getting it done. I need to talk with John at Tork because I asked how much it is now (I couldn't really remember for sure till I found this thread) but he said $600-$650. Still a good price compared to others who have no idea what the job is like. Anyway I'm getting it done on the 6th. If anyone else needs to have a clutch put in, let me know.....I think It would help get a deal if I can tell him other are waiting on my outcome.

Awesome, glad to see people going to his shop. Been working with him alot lately.
Yelloeye jumped on a dyno day at his place not to long back as well.

I'll be looking for a shop to have a clutch / flywheel replaced around December or January.

He takes pride in his work, and I'd surly use him again for other stuff. I'm still not sure how I like the new clutch, because of how it grabs, but I still need to get use to it. 2+ months later and I've yet to put 200 miles on it. For me, I don't think I needed a stage 3 clutch, but I was talked into it. I'm not going to do much more if anything horsepower wise (about 320hp to the crank now) and I think stage 2 would have been good enough. Then again I keeping thinking I'm going to sell it, so the next guy will be happy if he decides to build it up.

I just had my clutch and tranny replaced by

a working out of house garage in Woodland Washington No problems Price if interested will have to get from him because he did a lot of other work along with the clutch and tranny
He installed 3 innovate gauges remote oil filter valve cover gasket fixed some oil leaks in the turbo lines and more.
