while 4.45s are worth every penny, I can't pay his price :-(

Wert842 08-31-2014 09:57 AM

how much does he want?

06cobaltncng 08-31-2014 10:05 AM

$600 Canadian. which is like $560 or so US I think. not an outrageous price by no means. just outside of my budget.

Wert842 08-31-2014 10:25 AM

That's about right for pricing. Check your local junkyards for Saturn L series cars with 5 speeds. Even then, you'll end up paying $400-$500 for a trans and you won't even know the condition of the trans until you open it.

06cobaltncng 08-31-2014 10:29 AM

yeah like I said its not that he wants too much or anything. if I knew exactly how much all this labor is gonna cost me it might be a different story. if I found a saturn like that, would it have all the parts for a swap or would I still need the pinion and what not?

Wert842 08-31-2014 10:31 AM

From my understanding you can use your old pinions. You just need the gear set. Rebuild costs could be a fortune and costly depending who and how they do it.

06cobaltncng 08-31-2014 10:36 AM

well the only reason I was even looking into it is because my destroyed trans and the one im getting both have to be opened up regardless. so I was figuring while it was open why not swap. but if I cant find a set in my price range soon I just wont do it.
