How would one go about capturing a picture where your wheels appear to be spinning?
Certain camera and settings?

jschatte 08-25-2009 08:59 PM

well from my experience you gotta be going over 100kph, 110 is good. since your american, thats about 70 mph

DC52NV 08-25-2009 09:07 PM

it shouldn't matter how fast you're going. it's all about shutter speed. i can make a car going 5mph look like it's going over 100mph.

Well i dont have a fancy camera or anything. Its just a digital camera.. ill have to wait for g/f to get home with it to pst with the exact model.

Is it obtainable with a normal digital camera?

there are P&S cameras that let you set your own settings like aperture, shutter speed, etc.

i can let you know if your camera has these available once you post the model.

Nope. Don't think so anyway. Just an illusion with the light off the fenders on a black car. I've noticed something similar in other people's pics, though it usually is black that does it.

pretty sure thats just from two cars moving at the same speed. if u take a pic of a moving car while ur standing still on regular settings it will appear like a regular pic. u have to be moving in a car also in order to get the "moving" look or w/e

yeah thats true, i have tried both ways haha. But for the wheels to appear to be spinning, you got to get the shutter speed right, or go 70 with a regular shutter speed.

Stamina 08-26-2009 03:58 PM

Just put it on a dyno. ;) Two birds with one stone.

sean_halla 08-26-2009 08:29 PM

yes, your camera has the setting. put it on "S" mode on the dial.

the camera automatically sets the aperture for proper exposure. shutter priority mode is primarily used to prevent blur when your subject is moving or vice versa. to prevent camera shake, use a tripod for slow shutter speeds.

if you are going to be driving along w/ another car set your shutter speed to about 1/2 second, hold the camera tight and take the pic. you can also take the pic while standing still the same way. just focus on the car passing by and take the pic while following the vehicle.

make sure to play around w/ the shutter speed so you can see for yourself which shutter speed works best for you. honestly, i've never tried taking any rolling shots but this is the way i would do it if i ever did. of course i will play around until i get what i like.
