My First MMA Event Shoot
did my very first MMA shoot last friday. my fiance's brother (a fellow CSS.net member here) hooked it up with a press pass. rented a canon 28-70 f/2.8 for the event and the lens did not do the job as i expected. i ended up using my canon 24-105 f/4 IS lens instead and it worked wornders. i'm pretty sure the lens i rented had some issues w/ it since it was so old because i heard some great reviews about that lens, even though it's pretty old.
hope you enjoy the pics and C&C is always welcomed.

I like 7 the best gabe...need to get that 2.8 so that fence goes way even more...might even want to try taking a fast prime with you next time, maybe the 85/1.8 might make the fence go away all together when opened all the way up

thanks for the kind words.
had to be in the weirdest position just to get close enough to the cage.
i'll let you know next time i'm around the SD area.
i've been to a few events but this is my first time being in the press area. **** is intense. i truly recommend you watch one of these events live. it's a great experience.

i rented the 28-70 2.8 but it was faulty. had to pull out my 24-105 f/4. the extra zoom helped a little but the aperture killed me.
next time i'm renting the 70-200mm f/2.8 for sure. don't think the prime would work out very well since they are constantly moving around getting closer or farther away. if i can get a lens that was 24-200 f/2.8 that would be great.

since i had no prior experience and the promoter was doing this as a favor to a friend, i did this work pro bono. i don't mind at all since i consider this my foot through the door. hopefully they'll like it and will call me back when they do another show. if they do i'm sure money will come into play then.
here are some more pictures of the event.
