SUV ran over my hood

i had a thread asking what to do with my school money...between engine swap for car, or a bike.

well boys...problem solved...i just got home from work, pizza delivery, because i couldnt work.

some mexicans were pulling out and saw the car in front of me coming. so they stopped, car in front of me swerved and kept going. i keep going, but instead of stopping for me, they RUN OVER MY HOOD. they even had the nerve to tell the cop i was trying to race someone. WOW. on a little two lane road.

pics:

its hard to see here...but even the part around the sunroof is bent.

i didnt personally get all their information, because i called the fuzz immediately, and they got their information and told me i could go. no ticket. he knew i wasnt racing anyone by the small brake skidmarks, and told them even if i waqs, they were stupid and pulled in front of me. i was going like thirty, the speed limit.
i can't open my passenger door, no leaks or anything.

but apparently the crx is a ******* tank, mine still runs and everything, steering wheel a little off but its ok. however, i broke their ******* axle so one of their wheels doesnt turn...haha

however, i have never been in a wreck(that wasnt my fault) so what happens? i only have liability. so i dont know what to do next.

umm well if the cops say they are at fault, you don't have to do a thing...their insurance should cover it, if they have insurance....if they don't you're screwed

Go to the police station in a few days and pay like 5 bucks for the police report. It should have their insurance information and contact information.

Call their insurance company (Not yours) and file a claim. You will probably have to go and have the insurance agent look at the car and give them a copy of the police report.

Then get a quote to have the car fixed at a trusted body shop of choice.

The insuarnce company should either pay to have it fixed at your shop of choice or try and total the car, which ever is cheaper for the insurance company.

If they total the car, you have the option to pay the insurance company after they pay you to total the car and buy your car back. Or take the money and get a new car. If the car is totalled, most likely any mods will be lost.

Sorry to hear about the accident, best of luck! Hopefully they had insurance!

lots of information, thank you. i'm pretty sure they did. because the cop took everybodys information and then told me i could go. it was a newer car with texas plates so i'm pretty sure they had insurance.

Next time get their insurance information too..and the driver's name. That way you can call first thing the next working day to inform them and get the ball rolling. You do not have to rely on the Cops. If I were you I'd be calling the Cop Shop to get all the information -- or the accident report ASAP.

I relied on a security Guard when a lady ran over my parked motorcycle...she bamboozeled the security gaurd into thinking she had insurance...she didn't. My insurance company paid for the damages (full coverage).

Good luck!

if you have a good insurance company they will handle everything for you. when a drunk bitch, on probation hit my car, she had no DL or insurance. my insurance company told me they got it from here and they even delivered a rental for me at the scene of the accident.

Ouch. Just glad you're okay.
My old Golf got totaled when my sister in law was driving a couple weeks ago...Wasn't her fault, the guys were making an illegal u-turn and (likely high) they just stopped in the oncoming traffic lane, right in front of her. Finally sorting out everything through insurance and need to take it into a shop for an estimate tomorrow or so. Great thing is that although the whole front end is smashed, I can still drive it around and it doesn't even sound bad! '94 VW golf ftw!

yeah i didnt get any of it, because i asked the officer if i should and he said that he took care of it and it would be in the police report, and that i could go. so i will call up there tomorrow. and yeah he told me it would be like 6 bucks for the report. kinda gay for something you need right? lol. anyways, pretty sure they got tickets too. because he stayed there for longer after i left. he knew it wasnt my fault....i can tell because he didnt even give me a ticket for my registration being out....lol.

on another note...does it seem totalled to you? i would guess so. with how much **** they would have to replace.

turn signals, lights, hood, bumper, fender, door, winshield, a pillar, my ROOF, the part of the frame where the strut connects...

OH and about them giving me book value...do they base it exactly off of kbb...where they decide if its good, poor, very poor condition? because i just got my car touched up and repainted 2 months ago. trying to find the receipt..

When I got read ended, the police report was made available to me (I was given a copy) for free. I'm in Oregon, so I don't know if it's different here.

Good luck getting everything straightened out.

basically all liability insurance will get you is coverage for when you hit other people(fixing their car). If they take blame, and they at least have liability as well, your car should be repaired by them.

if the police report shows NO FAULT, your S-O-L.

yeah, their vehicle was covered by insurance. and no real update again, their insurance got my statement today. They said that they can't claim responsibility until they get the mexican statement. i'm worried about if they don't ever call them or something like that.

but i faxed them the police report i got which says unit 2 at fault(unit 2 = them) and shows the citation they received for failure to yield right of way. adjuster supposed to make appointment for me tomorrow. i sent some pictures to the local body shop to get a rough estimate, which i should also get tomorrow.
